Swimming pools in and around Punggol are in an unusual transition in late 2026. Punggol still does not have an open public ActiveSG swimming complex of its own, even though the town has more than 200,000 residents and a very young family profile. That is still officially planned to change in 2026 when the Punggol Regional Sports Centre opens, with five pools and a new public swimming hub beside Sentul Crescent and the Waterway. As of 27 September 2026, Sport Singapore still lists the centre as an upcoming facility and has not published a public opening day.
Until then, the main public swimming option remains Sengkang Swimming Complex at 57 Anchorvale Road. SAFRA Punggol has Splash @ Kidz Amaze, but Splash is an indoor water-play playground, not a public lap pool or ordinary swim-training complex. Condo pools, school pools and private facilities also exist, but access depends on residence, membership, lesson provider or booking.
This guide separates public swimming, children’s water play, swim lessons and the new Punggol Regional Sports Centre so families do not book the wrong facility for the job.

Punggol Regional Sports Centre: the future public pool hub
The new Punggol Regional Sports Centre is being built at 11 Sentul Crescent, behind One Punggol and beside the Waterway. The current official position remains an opening in 2026, but no month or public opening day has been announced as of 27 September. SportSG’s 2026 material still lists the centre as an upcoming facility, while September commercial-space tender activity shows the project is in a late delivery phase without establishing a visitor opening date.
The current facility plan includes five swimming pools. Public information released for the project includes a 50m, 8-lane competition pool with an infinity-edge design and wheelchair-access provision, a practice pool with underwater viewing panels, and other supporting pools for different levels and programmes.
This is a major change for Punggol families. The town will move from “travel to Sengkang or use private facilities” to having a full public swimming complex inside the town.
Do not assume it is open just because the building looks finished
Large public sport facilities often complete construction before every booking page, programme, pool and opening schedule is live. Until ActiveSG publishes the confirmed opening date and facility page, treat the Regional Sports Centre as expected, not operational.
Check SportSG / ActiveSG before turning up for a swim.
Sengkang Swimming Complex: the current nearest full public option
Sengkang Swimming Complex is at 57 Anchorvale Road, Singapore 544964. ActiveSG currently operates the complex every day except Monday, generally from 8am to 9.30pm, with selected early-morning competition-pool hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The complex is classed as a feature pool and includes sheltered-pool facilities and family water attractions. ActiveSG currently lists multiple slides with minimum-height requirements.
For many Punggol families, this remains the default public pool until the new Punggol complex opens.
Sengkang is not open every Monday
ActiveSG currently closes Sengkang Swimming Complex for weekly maintenance every Monday, except where the Monday is a public holiday and the facility operates under the published exception.
Temporary closures can also occur for maintenance, competitions or weather. Check the ActiveSG closure page before travelling.
Splash @ Kidz Amaze at SAFRA Punggol: water play, not swim training
Splash @ Kidz Amaze at SAFRA Punggol is one of Punggol’s best-known water facilities, but it solves a different job. It is an indoor water-play playground, designed around children’s play, slides and water features rather than lap swimming or formal stroke practice.
Current SAFRA guidance lists different operating schedules for ordinary school-term weekdays, school holidays, weekends and public holidays. Capacity limits and admission rules apply.

Water confidence is not the same as swimming ability
Children can become very comfortable in water play and still lack the skills required for safe independent swimming. A family should separate:
- comfort entering water;
- floating and breath control;
- basic propulsion;
- formal strokes;
- deep-water confidence;
- survival / water-safety skills.
Play supports familiarity. Structured swim instruction develops swimming capability.
Where should a Punggol child learn to swim?

Condo swim lessons
Punggol’s large condo/EC population makes condo-pool lessons common. This can be convenient for younger children because the commute disappears.
But residents should check management rules before hiring an outside coach. Some condominiums restrict commercial coaching, outside instructors, group size or pool-lane use.
Swimming for adults
Adult swimming needs fall into several categories:
- learning from zero;
- stroke improvement;
- fitness laps;
- triathlon/cross-training;
- rehabilitation or low-impact exercise.
The new Punggol Regional Sports Centre should greatly improve the convenience of lap and fitness swimming once it opens. Until then, Sengkang remains the clearest public ActiveSG route.
Swimming for seniors
Swimming and water exercise can provide low-impact movement, but the facility and programme need to fit the individual’s mobility, health and confidence. Sengkang Swimming Complex is currently listed as an inclusive pool facility and has accessibility features.
People with medical conditions should follow appropriate clinical advice before starting a new exercise programme.
Weather and pool closures
Outdoor pools can close temporarily during lightning and severe weather. Even a perfectly planned Saturday lesson can be interrupted by Singapore’s weather.
- Check the weather nowcast.
- Check ActiveSG facility closures.
- Understand the lesson provider’s wet-weather policy.
- Do not pressure staff to reopen during lightning risk.
Public-pool admission
ActiveSG swimming-complex rates depend on pool category, age and concession. Sengkang is currently a feature pool, so feature-pool admission rates apply. Use ActiveSG’s current rates page before assuming an older ticket price remains valid.

- change of clothes;
- shower items;
- swim cap where required by programme;
