Wheelchair Rental and Mobility Aids in Punggol

Pedestrian walkway at Waterway Point in Punggol

For wheelchair rental Punggol has no walk-in shop we could verify, but several suppliers deliver. DNR Wheels, for example, rents a detachable wheelchair from $27 a week. Eligible seniors aged 60 and above can get a subsidy of up to 90% through the Seniors’ Mobility and Enabling Fund, if it is approved before they buy.

A sprained ankle on Saturday or a parent coming home from hospital on Monday: either way, the first question is the same. Rent it, or get a subsidy?

This page is part of eduKate Punggol’s Essential Information for Punggol, our quick answers and where-to-go lists for everyday life in Punggol. It covers renting a wheelchair, the three main subsidy schemes for wheelchairs and other mobility aids, and how to avoid paying for something a subsidy would have covered.

Quick answer

  • Short-term rental: island-wide suppliers deliver. DNR Wheels lists $27 a week or $80 a month for a detachable wheelchair, plus a $160 deposit and $30 two-way delivery.
  • Seniors 60+: the Seniors’ Mobility and Enabling Fund (SMF) subsidises wheelchairs, walking aids, commodes, hospital beds and more, by up to 90%.
  • Persons with disabilities: SG Enable’s Assistive Technology Fund (ATF), also up to 90%. Seniors who did not use ATF before 60 apply for SMF instead.
  • Seriously ill at home: AIC’s Equipment Rental Scheme pays up to 80% of rental, through your care provider.
  • Golden rule: get SMF approved before you buy. AIC says purchases made in advance are not reimbursed.

Wheelchair Rental for Punggol: Who Delivers

The suppliers below deliver island-wide, and the first two are on AIC’s approved supplier list for its Equipment Rental Scheme, which is the best official list we found. We have not ranked them. We also could not confirm whether Punggol’s malls lend wheelchairs, so call ahead rather than counting on it.

Which Route Fits You

A few weeks after an injury

Renting is usually simplest. Add up the full cost: DNR Wheels shows a total of $217 for one week of a detachable chair once the $160 deposit and $30 delivery are included. Most of that is the deposit, so ask how and when it is refunded.

A senior who needs a wheelchair for the long term

Apply for SMF. It covers walking sticks, wheelchairs, pushchairs, motorised scooters, commodes, hospital beds, pressure relief cushions and mattresses, and customised devices. If your parent is in hospital, the therapist or medical social worker can apply before discharge.

A person with a disability, under 60

Use the ATF, which helps buy, replace, upgrade or repair devices such as wheelchairs and hearing aids. Ask a therapist or social worker at a public hospital or social service agency. If you are not under one, a polyclinic can refer you to a public hospital. People who did not use ATF before turning 60 should apply for SMF instead.

Someone seriously ill, cared for at home

AIC’s Equipment Rental Scheme is for patients with a serious illness and a prognosis of under a year. It rents commodes, hospital beds, oxygen concentrators, pressure relief mattresses and wheelchairs, and covers weekly rental and up to two-way transport. Your care provider orders it for you.

A motorised scooter

SMF covers motorised devices only for people with no full-time caregiver or domestic helper, who cannot push a manual wheelchair themselves, and who are assessed as safe to use one. You will need medical reports or a Certificate of Medical Need, and processing takes longer.

How to Get a Subsidised Wheelchair, Step by Step

  1. Check the scheme. SMF for Singapore Citizens and PRs aged 60 and above; ATF for persons with disabilities; the Equipment Rental Scheme for the seriously ill.
  2. Check the means test. For SMF and ATF, household monthly income per person must be $4,800 or less, or the home’s Annual Value within $21,000 if there is no income.
  3. Get assessed. If the person is at a public or community hospital, day rehab or senior care centre, ask the therapist or medical social worker. Otherwise, start with Punggol Polyclinic.
  4. Apply. SMF can be done through the therapist, online with Singpass, or on paper via subsidies.application@aic.sg or an AIC Link.
  5. Wait for approval. SMF and ATF take up to 15 working days; motorised devices take longer.
  6. Then buy or collect the device. Not before.

What to Have Ready

  • NRIC or Digital NRIC of the person who will use the device.
  • Any financial assistance documents you already have.
  • For motorised devices: medical reports or a Certificate of Medical Need.
  • The width of your doorways and lift, if you are buying or renting a larger chair.
  • A note of where the chair will be stored when folded, especially in a smaller flat.

Costs, Subsidies and Eligibility

  • SMF: up to 90% of the device cost or the cap, whichever is lower, so there is a co-payment. Assessment fees are $10 to $180 depending on your tier. Replacements are subject to waiting periods of 24, 36 or 48 months. Details on AIC’s SMF page.
  • ATF: for Singapore Citizens and PRs; the income threshold rose to $4,800 per person from January 2026. Up to 90% subsidy, with a lifetime cap of $40,000. Contact SG Enable on 1800 8585 885 or see the Enabling Guide.
  • Equipment Rental Scheme: up to 80% of rental costs, means-tested, for Singapore Citizens and PRs.
  • Renting privately: see the table above. Yeap Medical’s deposit is listed as refundable; ask every supplier about its refund rules before you sign.
  • Annual Values: AIC says 2026 subsidy levels are worked out using 2025 Annual Values.

Neighbour’s Tips for Wheelchair Users in Punggol

  • Do not buy first. AIC is firm that SMF approval must come before the purchase. A receipt from last week will not be reimbursed.
  • Ask before discharge. Hospital therapists can apply for SMF or the Equipment Rental Scheme and order from approved suppliers, which saves you a lot of phone calls.
  • Compare the total, not the weekly price. Deposit plus delivery can be bigger than the rent itself for a short hire.
  • Practise folding it at home. Do it once before the first trip out, not at the taxi stand in the rain.
  • Plan accessible routes. Our stroller and wheelchair-friendly routes and train lifts and gates guide cover getting around Punggol.
  • Keep moving safely. Our chair exercises for older adults are gentle ways to stay strong.
  • Mind the supplier’s hours. DNR Wheels closes on Sundays and public holidays, so arrange returns on a weekday or Saturday.

If You Need It Quickly

Wheelchair rental is not an emergency service, but some suppliers on AIC’s list keep longer support hours: Medicalassistance4u (7am–11pm), Medico and Yeap Medical (9am–9pm), and Roffe (24/7 for oxygen, 9am–9pm otherwise). Call and ask about delivery times. If someone has fallen and is hurt, call 995 for an emergency, or 1777 for a non-emergency ambulance until 31 December 2026 (the line ceases from 1 January 2027; see our Punggol ambulance contacts guide).
