Looking for the taxi stand Punggol shoppers use at Waterway Point? Waterway Point’s 2025 notice says it has been relocated to Punggol Central, opposite the mall, because of Cross Island Line works. Booking Grab or another private-hire car? Wait at the mall’s pick-up point along Punggol Walk, because private-hire cars cannot use taxi stands.
Standing at the right kerb is half the battle, especially when you are holding shopping bags and a sleepy child.
This page is part of eduKate Punggol’s Essential Information for Punggol, our quick answers and where-to-go lists for everyday life in Punggol. It lists the taxi stands and pick-up points we could check, the rules that decide where your driver may stop, current fares and surcharges, and what to do late at night.

Where to Find a Taxi Stand in Punggol
Punggol’s taxi stands sit where you would expect them: at the MRT hubs and the big driveways. Rows based on Waterway Point’s notice and JTC’s page are official. Taxi or Private-Hire Car: Which Fits Your Trip
You want a metered taxi right now
Walk to a taxi stand, or flag one down on the road. Punggol is outside the CBD, where LTA allows street hails as well as stands and taxi stops. Just do not wave at a taxi where it cannot stop: in a bus lane during its operating hours, within 9 metres of a bus stop, or where signs or road lines forbid stopping.
You are booking through an app
LTA’s list of ride operators includes CDG Taxi, CDG Zig, Geolah, Gojek, Grab, Ryde, TADA and Trans-cab. If the car that comes is a private-hire car, it cannot use the taxi stand. Choose a driveway or a pick-up point instead, such as the one along Punggol Walk at Waterway Point. Private-hire cars carry a “Private Hire” decal at the front and back.
You have young children with you
LTA requires private-hire cars to provide a booster seat or child restraint for passengers under 1.35 metres tall. Mention it when you book, so the driver arrives ready and you are not fiddling with straps in the rain.
You are heading home from Punggol Polyclinic
Use the Oasis Terraces driveway at Oasis LRT Exit A, which station guides list as having both a taxi stand and a pick-up point. Our Oasis Terraces guide explains the building’s layout.
You work or study in Punggol Digital District
For drop-offs, JTC names 90 Punggol Way as the taxi and private-hire point. Going home, the stand on Punggol Way by Punggol Coast MRT is the natural choice. If a colleague is driving you, JTC says the car park entrance is via Punggol Way near Towers 80, 82 and 84.
You live near a smaller LRT station
Station guides list no taxi stand at Coral Edge, Samudera, Punggol Point, Kadaloor or Riviera. Book through an app and wait at your block’s driveway or a safe, legal roadside spot.
How to Get a Taxi or Ride-Hail Car, Step by Step
- Choose taxi or private-hire. It decides where you stand. Taxis can use stands and street hails. Private-hire cars need a pick-up point or driveway.
- Walk to the right kerb first. At Waterway Point, that means Punggol Central for taxis and Punggol Walk for private-hire cars.
- Set your pin where you are actually standing. Add a short note for the driver, such as “Punggol Walk side of the mall”.
- Check the fare before you confirm. LTA says ride-hail flat fares must be shown upfront in the app, and private-hire fares should be shown before the ride starts.
- Check the car. Match the plate number in the app. A private-hire car should have its “Private Hire” decal front and back.
- Stop somewhere legal. Ask to be dropped at a driveway or stand, not at a bus stop or in a bus lane.
- Pay the way that suits you. Taxis accept cash, credit cards, NETS and CEPAS stored-value cards where the taxi has the device. Cashless payment charges may apply.
Taxi Fares and Surcharges for Punggol Trips
These are the structures published by LTA (page last updated 10 November 2025, checked October 2026). Flag-down fares vary by company within the range shown, so the meter or the app has the final word.
- Flag-down: standard taxis $4.40 to $5.20; premium taxis $5.00 to $5.50.
- Distance and waiting (standard taxis): 26 cents per 400 metres from 1 km to 10 km, 26 cents per 350 metres after 10 km, and 26 cents per 45 seconds of waiting.
- Peak surcharge, 25% of the metered fare: weekdays (not public holidays) 6am–9.29am and 5pm–11.59pm; weekends and public holidays 10am–1.59pm and 5pm–11.59pm.
- Midnight surcharge, 50% of the metered fare: every day from midnight to 5.59am.
- Booking fee: $2.30 at non-peak times for all companies except Prime ($2.50). Peak booking fees vary, so ask the operator.
- Location surcharges: trips starting at Changi Airport pay $8 (5pm to before midnight) or $6 at other times. City Area trips pay $3 (5pm to before midnight). Trips starting within Seletar Airport pay $3 at any time.
Full details are on LTA’s taxi fares and payment methods page.
Neighbour’s Tips for Taxis and Pick-Ups in Punggol
- Decide the side before you press “Book”. At Waterway Point, taxis wait on the Punggol Central side and ride-hail cars on Punggol Walk. Older guides that send you to the mall driveway are out of date.
- Follow the signs on the day. Station guides note that the Cross Island Line works at Punggol MRT include traffic diversions carried out in phases, so a stand can move again.
- Do not wait for a private-hire car at the taxi stand. The driver is not allowed to stop there, and you will end up jogging round the block.
- For the polyclinic, aim for Oasis LRT Exit A. The driveway saves a walk when someone is feeling unwell.
- Keep clear of bus stops. Taxis cannot stop within 9 metres of one, and the bus behind you will not be amused.
- Ask about a booster seat when you book. It is the rule for private-hire passengers under 1.35 metres.
- Watch the clock on late nights. From midnight the meter carries a 50% surcharge, so a dinner that ends a little earlier also costs less to get home from.
Late at Night or in an Emergency
- A taxi is not an ambulance. For chest pain, difficulty breathing or a serious injury, call 995. The 1777 non-emergency ambulance line works only until 31 December 2026: MOH says it ceases from 1 January 2027, after which you book a private ambulance operator or call NurseFirst on 6262 6262 for advice. Our 995 and 1777 guide explains the change.
- Getting home late: CDG Taxi takes phone bookings on 6552 1111 (LTA’s page does not state its hours). Our late-night transport guide covers the other ways back to Punggol.
- Waiting safely: LTA says the safest way to hail a taxi or get out of one is at a designated taxi stand, taxi stop or building driveway. At night, choose a lit one.
- Unwell but not in danger: see our 24-hour and late-night GP clinics list before you call a taxi to A&E.
