Before You Visit Tebing Lane
The Punggol East and Tebing Lane area is earmarked for future housing. In September 2026, news reports said the land at the nearby Punggol East Container Park would return to the state on 31 December 2026 for residential development. In October 2026, further reports said agencies could offer the master tenants at the container park and nearby Tebing Lane an extension of up to one year, to the end of 2027, subject to tenancy and regulatory requirements.
Those reports did not name any plant nursery. So we cannot tell you whether, or when, the nurseries will be affected. The practical advice is simple: call the nursery on the day you plan to go.
Which Option Fits Your Plans
A few herbs or one houseplant
Pick up a pot and potting mix at DAISO, then buy the plant from a nursery or grow one from a friend’s cutting. Our plant-cutting swap guide shows how neighbours share.
Orchids and air plants
Chwee Nursery at Seletar West Farmway is listed for orchids and air plants. Visitors say its collectors’ plots open on particular open-house days announced on Instagram, so check before you go.
Bigger plants or landscaping help
Several nurseries also offer landscaping. Ask for a written quote, and confirm delivery and lift access for heavy pots before you pay.
Growing food with others
A community garden gives you space, company and advice. Our community gardening for beginners guide is the place to start.
Plants for birds and butterflies
See our bird-friendly HDB home guide for native plant ideas.
How to Start a Small Home Garden
- Check your light. Notice which windows get direct sun and for how many hours. Tell the nursery, and they can suggest plants that suit.
- Start with three to five plants. It is easier to learn on a few than to rescue twenty.
- Choose pots with drainage holes. Roots sitting in water rot quickly.
- Use potting mix, not garden soil. Ask whether repotting or special soil costs extra before you hand over your pots.
- Keep plants inside your flat or on your own ledge. If you want plants outside your door, check with your town council first.
- Water by touch. Feel the top of the soil and water when it is dry, rather than on a fixed timetable.
- Empty the saucers. Standing water breeds mosquitoes, so tip it out regularly.
What to Bring to a Nursery
- Shoes you do not mind getting muddy. Visitors describe wet, uneven floors at the farmway nurseries.
- Photos of your space and the measurements of any ledge or corner.
- Old newspaper or boxes to keep the car clean on the way home.
- Your old pots, if you want plants repotted, after asking about charges.
- A note of which payment methods the nursery accepts, checked when you phone ahead.
Costs and Free Help
We have not listed plant prices, because none of the nurseries publishes them on an official page we could check. Prices vary with size and season, so ask before you buy, and ask about extras such as delivery, soil and repotting.
As of October 2026, NParks’ GardeningSG says free seed packets are not offered to individuals. Instead, its Community in Bloom Grow & Share Initiative 2026 gives starter and appreciation packs to groups that organise a community event, workshop or harvest sharing. To join an existing community garden, find it on the GardeningSG map and approach its gardening group directly.
Neighbour’s Tips for Gardening in Punggol
- Phone on the morning you go. With the Tebing Lane area earmarked for housing, a quick call saves a wasted trip.
- Go early in the day. Nurseries are cooler in the morning, and so are you.
- Make friends with a cutting. Many common houseplants root easily in water, and a swap with neighbours costs nothing.
- Watch for mosquitoes. Saucers, pot trays and blocked drainage holes are the usual culprits. Our gardening guides cover dengue prevention.
- Do not expect plants to clean haze. Our guide to indoor plants and haze air explains why an air purifier does that job better.
- Keep heavy pots low. Large pots belong on the floor, not on high ledges where wind or curious hands can reach them.
If a Plant Problem Becomes Urgent
- A child has eaten part of a plant and is unwell or struggling to breathe: call 995.
- A pet has eaten a plant: see our emergency and after-hours vets guide.
- Bees or mosquitoes in common areas: see our guide to pests in Punggol common areas for who to call.
