Which Shop Fits What You Want

Less packaging at home

Scoop Wholefoods sells a wide range of unpackaged goods by weight, and offers bulk refills of soaps, shampoos and conditioners. We could not confirm whether you may bring your own containers, so ask staff before you pack your jars.

Organic labels on packaged food

We could not verify which Punggol supermarkets stock organic ranges, and ranges change. Read the labels in-store at FairPrice Finest or any large supermarket. Our supermarkets guide covers where they are and when they open.

Good bread

Country Brot by Four Leaves (#B2-31) is on the same level as FairPrice Finest (#B2-32), so you can pick up a loaf at the end of the weekly shop.

Chinese tonics and herbal soups

Eu Yan Sang (#B2-28) and HockHua Tonic (#B2-30) are close together on B2. If you are buying herbs for a health condition, talk to a registered practitioner first. Our TCM clinics page lists where to find one.

An organic or specialty butcher

We found none in or near Punggol. For fresh meat, the markets are your best start. See our Punggol Plaza and market guide and the wet markets guide.

How to Shop Organic and Specialty Food Without Overspending

  1. Choose what matters most to you. Few families buy everything organic. Pick the few items you care about and buy the rest as usual.
  2. Try small amounts first. At a bulk shop you can buy a little by weight, so test a new grain or nut butter before you commit.
  3. Compare by unit price. A small packet can cost more per 100g than a large one. Our guide to unit prices and labels shows how, and it is a good lesson for children too.
  4. Read the whole label. Check ingredients, origin and the date mark, not just the word on the front.
  5. Store it well. Bulk nuts, grains and spices keep better in airtight containers. Our expiry dates and storage labels guide explains the labels.
  6. Do one loop. Most of these shops are in Waterway Point, many of them on B2, so plan the order before you go.

What to Bring

  • Reusable bags, and a cooler bag if you are buying seafood or chilled items.
  • Clean, dry containers only if the shop confirms you can use them.
  • A short list with quantities, so bulk buying stays sensible.

Costs

We have not quoted prices, because we could not check them against the shops’ own pages. Specialty and organic food often costs more, so a budget helps. Our five-day family food plan shows how to mix healthy hawker meals with a sensible grocery list.

Neighbour’s Tips

  • Think of B2 as the specialty floor. FairPrice Finest, Country Brot, Eu Yan Sang, HockHua Tonic and Bee Cheng Hiang all sit on Waterway Point’s B2, per the mall listings.
  • Use the bulk shop for odd quantities. Need two tablespoons of a spice for one recipe? Buying by weight avoids a jar that sits in the cupboard for a year.
  • Call Nespresso before a weekday visit. Its listed weekday hours look like a typing error, so ring 6812 7300 first.
  • Check the unit at Scoop. Listings disagree on its unit number, so use the mall directory before you go.
  • Keep a list of what each shop does best. One for bread, one for bulk, one for tonics. It saves wandering.
  • Let children do the weighing. Scooping and weighing at a bulk shop is a small, real maths lesson.
