Bus Guide | Where to Go, What to Do | Interesting Places SBS Transit Bus Service 87 Goes To

Street photograph of HDB housing in Bedok, Singapore.

Where does SBS Transit Bus Service 87 go, and what interesting places can you visit? Bus 87 connects Sengkang Bus Interchange to Bedok Bus Interchange through Hougang, Kaki Bukit and Bedok North. It is most useful for local errands and a few practical destinations: a Hougang town-centre visit, a Downtown Line connection at Kaki Bukit, an optional separately mapped visit to Bedok Town Park, or a meal and rail transfer at Bedok.

Service 87 returned to Sengkang Bus Interchange on 31 October 2026 after a temporary period using Compassvale. This is important because some search results still carry the temporary interchange heading. SBS Transit’s dated restoration notice and the updated route table identify 67009 Sengkang Int. If your saved screenshot shows a different starting point, check the current service sign rather than waiting at the wrong shelter.

The route does not take you straight to Bedok Reservoir Park’s lakeside entrance, Singapore EXPO or Changi Airport. These are different destinations even if they are associated with eastern Singapore. This guide explains exact published stops, possible activities, and the difference between a roadside stop and the final walk to a park or shopping centre.

What this service is — and what it is not

SBS Transit Service 87 is a regular Sengkang Int (67009) to Bedok Int (84009) service. Southbound it passes Ranggung LRT, Hougang MRT, the Hougang Avenue 3 corridor, Kaki Bukit MRT (DT28), Bedok North MRT (DT29) and Bedok town centre. It is not a continuous sightseeing loop, nor an airport service, nor a bus terminating at a reservoir park.

Quick facts and the new interchange information

  • Operator: SBS Transit.
  • Current Sengkang terminal: 67009 Sengkang Int, restored from the temporary Compassvale arrangement on 31 October 2026.
  • Bedok terminal: 84009 Bedok Int near Bedok MRT (EW5).
  • Published first/last from Sengkang: 5.30am and 11.30pm daily; check the reverse-direction schedule separately.
  • Substantive intermediate rail stops: 67211 Ranggung Exit A, 64381 Hougang Exit C, 72039 Kaki Bukit Exit A, 84539 Bedok North Exit B.
  • Practical route character: residential roads, town-centre errands, industrial estates and Downtown Line transfers—not a coastline or reservoir circuit.
  • Park option: Bedok Town Park at Bedok North Avenue 3 is a separately mapped walk; the stop name does not equal the park’s entrance.
  • Fares and live waits: verify with SimplyGo or SBS Transit’s live service information rather than printing a fixed cost or arrival time.

Where to alight: useful stops and realistic destinations

The five-digit numbers below refer to published stops for the stated travel direction, not the exact entrance of a mall, park or venue. Walks, safe crossings, lift access, venue hours and the reverse-direction stop need separate checks.

The 2026 interchange change: where passengers should actually board

LTA originally announced the temporary relocation of five Sengkang services while upgrading works proceeded. SBS Transit’s later notice dated 7 October 2026 confirms that Service 87, along with 80, 86, 372 and 374, would resume from Sengkang Bus Interchange on Saturday 31 October 2026. The correct origin on the restored route is 67009.

This matters for first-time passengers, people returning after a school holiday and anyone using an online page that has not been refreshed. A live timetable from the wrong stop does not solve the problem of waiting outside the service’s present route.

If you are in Punggol, begin with a legitimate connection to Sengkang. Do not claim that Bus 87 starts from Punggol simply because the towns are neighbours. Punggol MRT to Sengkang MRT is one possible rail connection, but the best first leg depends on your actual address and whether you need step-free facilities.

When leaving Bedok late in the day, check the Sengkang-bound route and the return terminal stop. A last departure printed for Sengkang is not the final departure from Bedok or the intermediate stop you use.

Ranggung and Hougang: a neighbourhood bus has a different purpose from the MRT

Bus 87 leaves Sengkang through Compassvale and Sengkang East Avenue, serving 67211 Ranggung Stn Exit A. It then reaches Hougang Avenue 10 and 64381 Hougang Stn Exit C. These are ordinary residential and transport environments, but that is precisely why the service can be useful.

A rider near Ranggung may have a bus stop closer to home than the nearest North East Line platform. In Hougang, the purpose might be a library visit, a short meal or an appointment. Do not promise that the Hougang MRT bus stop is the mall entrance; check the crossing and the correct building.

A family outing can be intentionally small: ride to Hougang, visit one public facility that is open, have lunch and return. The presence of Bedok further along the same route is not a reason to make an otherwise comfortable trip longer.

For a student learning travel planning, record three kinds of location: an LRT station, an MRT station and a bus shelter. They have different access rules and may sit on different sides of a road. The skill is understanding how they connect, not memorising every number.

Kaki Bukit: a useful transfer station, not an industrial sightseeing attraction

Southbound Bus 87 calls at 72039 Kaki Bt Stn Exit A. That is a Downtown Line station, and a genuine opportunity to switch from bus to rail. The surrounding corridor contains workplaces and industrial premises; many are not open for casual visits.

It is tempting to label every stop an ‘interesting place’, but accuracy matters more. A person travelling for work or an appointment may find the Kaki Bukit stop highly useful. Another traveller with no purpose in the industrial estate should not be persuaded to enter a private compound to make a sightseeing checklist.

Check the exact office or building address before travelling. Some industrial complexes have controlled visitor entrances, deliveries or loading areas. Do not cross service roads informally or assume a street door on the same side of the map is the public entrance.

For a rail transfer, look for the correct Downtown Line station exit and crossing. If your final destination is elsewhere on the Downtown Line, compare leaving the bus here with remaining aboard until Bedok North. The answer depends on your destination, traffic and waiting time.

Bedok North MRT and Bedok Town Park: a useful but separate nature outing

The operator’s southbound stop list includes 84539 Bedok Nth Stn Exit B at Bedok North MRT (DT29). Nearby road and residential corridors can be useful for an outing to Bedok Town Park, but the park is not listed as the endpoint of the bus and no universal walking time should be asserted.

NParks describes Bedok Town Park as a 14-hectare park bounded by Bedok North Road, Bedok North Avenue 3 and the Pan-Island Expressway. Its public spaces include a nature playgarden, playground and a dog run; it is open 24 hours, although any activity or equipment may have specific conditions. It is a separate park from Bedok Reservoir Park.

The correct planning order is to choose the park feature first. A playground visitor, a walking group and someone travelling with a wheelchair may prefer different approaches. Open the official park map, identify the entrance and only then decide whether the Bedok North MRT-area stop or another connection makes sense.

Do not tell visitors that Bus 87 runs around the Bedok Reservoir lakeside. The route instead travels along Bedok Reservoir Road and Bedok North Road. Bedok Reservoir Park’s main visitor approaches are a different last-mile problem, so use a journey planner for the actual reservoir entrance.

A family could make a modest Bedok Town Park visit by walking only a section of the open paths, noting a few plant or nature-play features and returning before the heat becomes uncomfortable. Respect the shared space, remain outside any cordoned areas and take weather and personal mobility seriously.

Bedok Interchange: an easy town-centre finish, but not every Bedok attraction

The southern terminal is 84009 Bedok Int, near Bedok MRT on the East–West Line. For readers wanting an indoor option, the town centre offers public retail and food. This is a realistic outing in its own right, especially when weather makes a park walk less appealing.

As with other Singapore towns, ‘Bedok’ can refer to a station, interchange, mall, reservoir, park, neighbourhood or school. They are not one site. If someone says they are meeting you at Bedok, request an exact entrance and level. The bus terminal does not provide door-to-door access to every attraction in the planning area.

A student trip can compare public transport nodes: Sengkang MRT is on the North East Line, while Bedok MRT is on the East–West Line; the bus passes two Downtown Line stations on the way. This demonstrates how routes cross different systems without requiring the student to ride all day.

If you decide not to use Bus 87 for the return, check a suitable railway route from your actual destination. It may involve a transfer, but could still be more comfortable than waiting for a bus in an exposed or inconvenient place.

When the trip has a fixed appointment time, leave a buffer. The published frequency range is not a promise that the bus will arrive at any intermediate stop within a single maximum wait under all traffic conditions.

The return direction: why the same station has two different stop codes

In the reverse Bedok-to-Sengkang direction, the operator’s route table lists 84451 Bedok Nth Stn Exit A, 72031 Bef Kaki Bt Stn Exit B and 67219 Ranggung Stn Exit B. These differ from the southbound stop codes. Saving only the name of the station is therefore incomplete.

Imagine a family leaving the park and heading home. They identify Bedok North on a map, arrive at the wrong side and see a bus number 87 heading towards Bedok rather than Sengkang. The correct repair is not to rush across the road as the bus approaches. Instead, confirm the return shelter and cross at a permitted crossing.

For someone using a pram or wheelchair, the road crossing, shelter and station exit form one route. A station being accessible does not mean every nearby pedestrian shortcut is step-free. Check the actual route rather than assuming the nearest point on a map is suitable.

This method is transferable: save outward stop code, return code, displayed direction and the destination’s entrance. It is more reliable than asking a tired person to improvise when the outing ends.

Bedok Town Park versus Bedok Reservoir Park: an important correction

The two parks are different. Bedok Town Park sits along Bedok North Avenue 3 near the residential district; Bedok Reservoir Park surrounds a large reservoir converted from a former sand quarry. NParks gives separate official pages for each.

Do not treat the word ‘Bedok’ as sufficient navigation. A person who wants reservoir views, land-based activities or the park connector near the reservoir must choose a specific entrance on the NParks map. Bus 87 travelling on Bedok Reservoir Road does not, by itself, guarantee a convenient stop at the desired entrance.

For a short child-friendly outing, Bedok Town Park may offer suitable playground and nature-play areas, subject to individual access. For a reservoir-focused experience, compare a connection to Bedok Reservoir MRT and the remaining walk. The best choice depends on which experience you actually want.

This distinction protects readers from the most common form of route-guide error: the bus and the attraction occur in the same town name, so the article claims they are directly connected. Useful travel writing specifies the final walk and admits when another route may be better.

Three itineraries you can actually use

Hougang library and a short lunch

From restored Sengkang Int 67009, take Bedok-bound Bus 87 to 64381 Hougang Stn Exit C. Choose an open public library or meal destination in the precinct, verify the walking path and return using a confirmed Sengkang-bound bus stop or rail.

Bedok Town Park on a manageable day

Travel to the Bedok North vicinity using the southbound 87, check NParks’ actual Bedok Town Park entrance map, walk a comfortable portion of the park and return using a verified stop. Do not confuse this with an automatic reservoir-lakeside itinerary.

Bedok shopping and an MRT return

Ride Bus 87 to 84009 Bedok Int, complete one town-centre shopping or food purpose and assess the East–West Line connection for the return. Keep the trip short enough for the group and confirm any individual shop is open.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Old Compassvale boarding: Service 87 returned to Sengkang Interchange 31 October 2026; follow current signs, not an outdated temporary terminal header.
  • Confusing Bedok’s two parks: Bedok Town Park and Bedok Reservoir Park have different entrances and attractions.
  • Assuming Kaki Bukit is a tourist district: it is a useful rail/workplace stop; private workplaces are not casual attractions.
  • Wrong bus side at Bedok North: 84539 is the southbound station stop, while 84451 serves the return direction.
  • Assuming Hougang Mall is at the bus pole: check the pedestrian approach and the particular shop or library hours.
  • Unverified park accessibility: a park’s general accessibility does not guarantee every last-mile approach from a bus shelter.
  • Fixed arrival guesses: terminal times and scheduled headways are not guaranteed intermediate arrival times.
  • Unnecessary full-route trip: stop at the destination that serves your purpose rather than treating Bedok as compulsory.
