Bus Guide | Where to Go, What to Do | Interesting Places SBS Transit Bus Service 113 Goes To

Where does SBS Transit Bus Service 113 go, and which interesting places can you visit? Bus 113 begins and ends at Hougang Central Bus Interchange, loops past Punggol Park in Hougang, Hougang Swimming Complex, Kovan MRT and Heartland Mall, the Block 105 Hainanese Village Market and Food Centre along Hougang Avenue 1, then Lorong Ah Soo and Upper Paya Lebar Road before returning through Kovan, Hougang and Punggol Park. It is a local route where a family can choose one park, swimming or food outing instead of attempting every stop.

Two details are crucial. First, Punggol Park is located in Hougang at the junction of Hougang Avenues 8 and 10; it is not Punggol Waterway Park or a stop at Punggol MRT. Second, 113A is a weekday peak-period Kovan-based short loop through Hougang Avenue 1 and Lorong Ah Soo. It does not start at Hougang Central or call at Punggol Park. The full Bus 113 is the service to choose for the complete park-to-Kovan-to-Lorong Ah Soo circuit.

Which bus stop should you use?

This table uses the SBS Transit five-digit stopping codes in the route’s published sequence. A named stop may be on the opposite side of a road from a destination and is not a free ticket, available appointment, accessible building entrance or current live arrival. Always verify the last walk and return direction.

Why Punggol Park makes Service 113 different from other Kovan loops

SBS Transit’s full Service 113 travels along Hougang Avenue 8 to the named stop 64071 Opp Punggol Pk soon after departing Hougang Central. This is an unusually useful park connection within a neighbourhood loop. NParks identifies Punggol Park as a public green space at the junction of Hougang Avenues 8 and 10, roughly 16 hectares in size with a large lake, playground, landscaping and walking paths.

The name Punggol can mislead a first-time visitor. Punggol Park is in Hougang and is not the same place as Punggol Waterway Park near Sentul Crescent or the coastal parks near Punggol Point. If your destination is the park’s lake, use the Hougang stop code and entrance instead of taking a train to Punggol MRT and looking for a similar name.

A short outing can be as simple as a lakeside walk, watching water birds or taking a rest under shade. Visitors should avoid feeding wildlife and fish only at designated spots, as NParks instructs. A child can practise identifying plants or observing how a public park is shared among walkers, cyclists and families.

The outward 64071 stop is labelled ‘Opp Punggol Pk’, indicating that it may require a road crossing before entering the park. On the later returning part of the bus loop, the park-side stop is 64079 Punggol Pk. Do not assume the same shelter is best in both directions; the route is circular and the remaining bus journey matters.

For someone using a stroller or wheelchair, check the correct accessible crossing from the stop to the desired path. NParks’ general statement that the park is wheelchair accessible is not a live guarantee about every kerb and crossing outside the park. A short safe path is more useful than a longer route that is difficult to complete.

Hougang Swimming Complex: only a destination when the pool is available

The full route passes 63351 Opp Hougang Swim Cplx and later 63359 Hougang Swim Cplx. The public facility is at 95 Hougang Avenue 4, near a broader sports centre corridor. This can be a useful reason for a family to travel if the swimming activity is actually available.

Sport Singapore’s ActiveSG page states that the swimming complex is normally closed every Tuesday for maintenance, with a public-holiday exception, and that weather or additional maintenance can affect facility access. The published general opening window is usually 8am–9.30pm except Tuesdays. That is venue information, not part of the bus timetable.

Before setting out, check the actual pool session or admission requirement, pack suitable swimming gear and allow time to change and reach the entrance. An outdoor pool may temporarily close in a thunderstorm even when Service 113 continues to run. Do not treat a swimming-pool bus stop as proof the sport is available.

If the pool is unavailable, it may be better to visit Hougang Mall, have a meal or return home instead of forcing a different sport into the same afternoon. A well-planned outing can be flexible and still achieve a useful family goal.

Keep the return-side stop code ready. Tired swimmers may find an extra crossing more burdensome, so the correct shelter and a safe approach matter just as much as the service number.

Kovan MRT and Heartland Mall: the difference between a stop and a destination

On the outward leg, Service 113 calls at 63039 Kovan Stn Exit C. Its returning leg lists 63031 Kovan Stn Exit B. Heartland Mall’s official public-transport page names Bus 113 and Kovan Exit C as a way to visit its building at 205 Hougang Street 21.

This provides a practical food, shopping or rail-transfer outing. A household might need one item from a shop; a student might have an appointment at a legitimate enrichment provider; or a family might want lunch. Check the actual tenant and opening times rather than assuming an entire mall has one timetable.

The bus also calls at Kovan Hub (63221) and Opp Kovan Hub (63229) at different points of the loop. These are roadside locations serving a wider mixed neighbourhood. A person should not automatically select Kovan Hub if the intended outlet sits closest to the MRT entrance.

For an educational travel exercise, ask a child to distinguish three pieces of information: Kovan MRT Exit C, the five-digit public bus stop, and the shopping centre’s actual address. This is an excellent small lesson in precise navigation without requiring a long cross-town trip.

The remaining loop can take the bus through Hougang Avenue 1 and Lorong Ah Soo before it returns to Kovan. If the family is already tired, compare an MRT alternative back towards Hougang rather than assuming the continuing 113 bus must be fastest. The bus’s published order should decide how attractive it is.

Hougang 105 Hainanese Village: a genuine hawker-food reason to visit

One particularly distinctive stop on the full 113 is 63281 Blk 105 Mkt/FC along Hougang Avenue 1. NEA recognises the associated centre as Hougang Ave 1 Blk 105 (Hougang 105 Hainanese Village Centre). This is not merely a vague reference to a food district: the bus actually stops at a named market-and-food-centre location.

A family can plan a modest hawker meal, explore the public market environment or buy food according to current availability. Different hawker stalls have their own opening hours, rest days and sold-out periods; an article must not promise an individual dish, stall or fixed price without checking the operating business.

Important future closure: NEA’s published quarterly cleaning schedule lists 14–18 December 2026 for Hougang 105 Hainanese Village Centre. A December food excursion during those dates could be wasted if it assumes the centre is open. Check NEA’s live cleaning calendar again as travel dates approach, as planned works can change.

For a parent wanting a simple cultural-learning visit, a hawker centre can illustrate how markets, food services and residential neighbourhoods connect. Ask the child to observe the way a food centre is organised, read displayed price information and understand why different stallholders keep different schedules. Be considerate of working vendors and other diners.

On the return route, Bus 113 uses other Hougang Avenue 1 stops, so the same Blk 105 code may not appear in both directions. Save the actual stop you will need for home rather than assuming a mirror-image shelter offers the same short journey.

Lorong Ah Soo: a housing and school corridor, not an extra tourist attraction

From Hougang Avenue 1, the route continues to 63291 Opp Blk 115 on Lorong Ah Soo and 63301 Paya Lebar Meth Girls’ Sc, then turns through Hougang Street 11 towards 62059 Blk 161 on Upper Paya Lebar Road. This area matters to residents, school communities and people making specific appointments.

A school stop does not mean school grounds are open to tourists. Parents attending an admissions or school appointment should confirm the exact gate and authorised time, then plan the legal walk from the bus stop. Avoid interfering with school arrivals and dismissals or photographing children without an appropriate reason and permission.

If the destination is a specific HDB block or community office, ask for the actual address rather than relying on the phrase Lorong Ah Soo. The route travels through several different streets and junctions, and a few stops can produce a substantial walking difference.

The turn on Upper Paya Lebar Road is also the core of short-trip 113A, but a stop labelled Upper Paya Lebar Road does not mean the service enters Paya Lebar MRT. The names are geographically related but different locations. Use actual railway station codes or a current route planner if changing to the East–West/Circle Lines.

The ordinary route continues back through Lorong Ah Soo, Hougang Avenue 1 and Kovan before it reaches Hougang again. Understanding that circulation is the key to selecting a sensible return bus.

What exactly is 113A? The Kovan-based commuter loop

SBS Transit publishes 113A as a short weekday peak service beginning at 63039 Kovan Stn Exit C, travelling via Kovan Hub, Hougang Avenue 1 and Lorong Ah Soo to 62059 Blk 161, then returning through the same broader corridor to 63031 Kovan Stn Exit B.

This is very different from full Service 113. It does not start at Hougang Central Interchange and does not serve the Punggol Park or Hougang Swimming Complex portion of the loop. Someone wanting those attractions should wait for the complete 113 or select another appropriate bus rather than assuming the ‘A’ is a faster full-route option.

The short service shows weekday peak operation: the official 113A timetable gives first and last departures across the morning and evening periods, with a midday gap. Therefore the fact that 113A can appear as late as the evening does not imply it runs all day without interruption.

A short variant can still be useful to a resident who lives on the exact section it serves. The problem is treating all buses labelled 113 as equivalent to the full neighbourhood loop. Always read the displayed destination and the official shortened stop list.

If the wrong variant has already been boarded, get off at an authorised stop and plan a lawful transfer. A bus cannot be expected to continue beyond its advertised endpoint or to stop at a school gate outside the official passenger stops.

Comparing Bus 113 with 112, 101 and 119 without duplicating the same guide

Bus 113 is particularly distinctive because it serves the named Punggol Park stop, Hougang Swimming Complex, Kovan, Hougang 105 Market and Food Centre and Lorong Ah Soo in one route. 112, by contrast, uses Hougang Avenue 7’s riverfront corridor, Kovan and Hougang Street 92; it does not have the named Punggol Park stop.

101 starts at Serangoon rather than Hougang and loops via Hougang Green Shopping Mall and Buangkok Square. 119 starts at Punggol Interchange, runs through Sengkang and reaches Punggol Park and Kovan. These differences matter more than the fact that several services share Kovan station or a few Hougang roads.

For a Punggol resident, Bus 119 may make a park visit simpler because it starts at Punggol. For a Serangoon resident, a rail connection to Kovan and then a route towards the park might be preferable. The best route should be selected from the real starting point and desired park entrance, not a fixed recommendation for everyone.

A family wanting a hawker meal at Hougang Avenue 1 should choose a service serving that actual market and check the NEA cleaning calendar. A family wanting a swim should check ActiveSG first. Those are different planned activities even if both are reachable on a single bus.

The benefit of detailed route writing is precision: know what this bus uniquely serves, what its variants do not serve, and when an alternative mode will be more suitable.

Making a short local outing successful instead of exhausting

A child who enjoys wildlife may find a short Punggol Park walk enough; another may prefer swimming, while an adult might want a meal at the Hougang Avenue 1 market. Do not turn one service with many useful stops into an obligation to spend the entire day outdoors.

Choose one goal and a fallback before leaving. For a park outing, the fallback might be a meal if the weather changes. For a swimming visit, it might be another permitted indoor activity or simply returning home. For a market meal, a cleaning closure should be checked before the bus ride rather than discovered after arrival.

Write down the boarding stop, alighting code, actual venue entrance and the return stop. This is more useful than a guessed journey time or an old photograph of a bus. For accessibility, inspect the whole sequence of kerbs, crossings, lifts and paths instead of assuming a venue is usable because the bus itself is labelled wheelchair accessible.

Check current service information at the stop when it matters. The 12.10am last departure at Hougang Central does not guarantee an arrival at Kovan or Lorong Ah Soo at that time, and a variant 113A may not serve the later park-side stops.

A successful bus outing leaves everyone knowing how to get home comfortably. That is the central purpose of this guide: to make public transport understandable, honest and useful.

Three practical outings from this route

Punggol Park nature and a short lake visit

Board full SBS 113 at Hougang Central (64009) and alight at 64071 Opp Punggol Pk. Cross at a legal point to the chosen park entrance, observe the lake and public facilities, then return using a correct route-side stop such as 64079 when appropriate. Do not confuse this with Punggol MRT.

Hougang 105 Hainanese Village food outing

Use full 113 to 63281 Blk 105 Mkt/FC, check NEA’s cleaning schedule, enjoy one operating hawker stall and plan the correct return leg. Do not schedule an unquestioned visit during the listed 14–18 December 2026 cleaning closure.

Swimming then a practical return

First confirm Hougang Swimming Complex is open, especially if the outing falls on Tuesday. Use full 113 and the appropriate 63351/63359 stop, complete the swimming session under ActiveSG rules and return before the group becomes tired. Do not board 113A for the sports complex.

Problems and fixes: save yourself a wasted trip

  • Punggol town error: the park is in Hougang at Hougang Avenue 8/10, not Punggol MRT.
  • 113A is not the full bus: its weekday peak loop begins at Kovan and does not reach Punggol Park or Hougang Central.
  • Hougang 105 cleaning: NEA lists 14–18 December 2026; check the latest closure calendar.
  • Pool closure: ActiveSG normally closes Hougang Swimming Complex every Tuesday except public-holiday exceptions.
  • Kovan side confusion: 63039 Exit C outward, 63031 Exit B later; review route order.
  • School access: the Paya Lebar Methodist school stop is not an invitation into campus facilities.
  • Upper Paya Lebar Road is not Paya Lebar MRT: do not promise a direct transfer that the bus does not serve.
  • Wrong return stop: park and pool stops use different codes on later parts of the loop.
