NLB’s published overdue fine is $0.15 per day for each book or magazine, and $0.50 per day for each audio-visual item. These NLB-wide rules apply to relevant loans from Punggol Library.
Outstanding charges suspend borrowing privileges, which are restored when the charges are paid in full. Returning an overdue item and paying the resulting balance are separate actions; check your account after resolving the loan.
You can pay through the official online account or NLB Mobile app, or use supported payment methods at public-library borrowing stations. Start with NLB’s current payment instructions rather than an old notice about a temporary waiver.

Check the item and the account balance
NLB’s fines and charges page distinguishes overdue fines from lost-item, damage and reservation charges. It also includes CD-ROMs with accompanying books in the $0.15 daily category.
Read the account entry before assuming every balance is a late-return fine. If an entry appears wrong or you cannot identify the item, ask NLB to clarify it instead of paying an unrelated charge on someone else’s account.
Use an official payment route
The online account supports debit or credit card and PayNow QR. NLB Mobile also lists Apple Pay and Google Pay. Borrowing stations support options including EZ-Link, PayNow and contactless cards.
Check the amount and account, complete the transaction, and retain the confirmation. A screen showing payment options is not itself evidence that payment succeeded. If the balance remains unclear, use NLB’s official assistance channel.
Renew before the book becomes overdue
Under NLB’s standard renewal rules, eligible books and music scores can be renewed once for 21 days if not overdue or reserved by another member. Magazines and audio-visual items cannot be renewed.
Check the renewed due date in your account rather than assuming a renewal request was accepted. Special collections can have different terms, so use the conditions attached to the actual loan.
Build a simple return routine
As a practical habit, check all family loans before the next outing and separate books you are keeping from those ready to return. Keep an account check in the routine so a forgotten item does not remain unnoticed.
