To find a particular book at Punggol Library, search the NLB catalogue, open the relevant title and check its availability at Punggol. A catalogue result somewhere in NLB’s collection does not mean a copy is available at your chosen branch.
NLB’s Librarian’s Challenge guide recommends noting the title, section or shelf location, and call number for an available copy. Use those details to locate the shelf.
Check the edition and format before travelling. A print book, eBook and audiobook can have different availability, while an item shown as on loan is not a copy waiting on the shelf for immediate borrowing.

Find the information you need
Search for the right title or edition
Read branch availability carefully
Take the call number to the shelf
Use a different route if it is unavailable
Search for the right title or edition
The NLB guide describes searching by title, author, genre or topic. Start with the most distinctive detail you know, then inspect the result rather than selecting only from a familiar-looking cover.
For a school reading requirement, compare the author and edition with the teacher’s instructions. A similarly named adaptation or translated version may be useful reading without being the exact text required for class.
Read branch availability carefully
Use the catalogue’s availability information for the branch you intend to visit. NLB’s guide uses the label “View Availability”; interfaces may change, but the aim is to identify the relevant copy and its location.
Treat availability as information to check, not a personal reservation. If the journey is being made for one specific book, recheck before leaving and consider what you will do if you cannot locate it.
Take the call number to the shelf
A call number helps identify where an item belongs within the indicated section. Keep it together with the title and location details so you are not trying to navigate from the number alone.
If the shelf search is unsuccessful, ask library staff for help and show the record you found. Avoid putting a nearby book in an unrelated section while searching; keeping the arrangement intact helps other readers too.
Use a different route if it is unavailable
Consider another edition only if it suits your purpose, or check other branches and digital formats. Our NLB eBooks guide explains digital borrowing.
If you choose to reserve a physical copy, read the fees, collection instructions and account conditions before confirming. For the building’s spaces and a general visit, continue to our Punggol Library guide.
