SIT and underwater robotics company BeeX announced the Autonomous Marine Foundry at SIT Punggol Campus on 18 June 2026. The joint facility supports applied research and development in maritime robotics and autonomous underwater systems within Punggol Digital District.
The official launch announcement describes testing for underwater infrastructure inspection, environmental monitoring and coastal protection. These are research applications, not a public underwater-drone experience or a rental service.
Students and businesses interested in the foundry should confirm the relevant project or collaboration route through SIT. A launch announcement does not establish walk-in access, an open internship vacancy or a public demonstration timetable.

What marine autonomy means here
The partnership combines SIT’s applied research with BeeX’s autonomous underwater vehicle expertise. It aims to translate research into practical responses to operational and environmental problems.
As an illustration, inspecting a submerged structure involves more than moving a robot through water. The investigation also needs a useful observation, a way to interpret it and a decision about what to do next.
Understand the coastal-research aim
The announcement describes exploring underwater drones as sensor platforms for monitoring coastal protection structures and detecting anomalies.
An anomaly is a reason to investigate, not automatically proof of a particular fault. Keep a proposed use case separate from a completed deployment and its measured results when reading about new research.
What the student pathway describes
SIT identifies IWSP attachments, capstone projects and mentorship as learning opportunities associated with the collaboration. It also describes plans for workshops and hackathons.
Ask about current opportunities, eligibility and supervision rather than treating every planned activity as open for registration. Confirm the expected commitment before rearranging a study or work schedule.
Prepare a clear enquiry
Describe whether you are seeking student participation, a research discussion or an authorised visit. For industry enquiries, clarify the problem and what information can be shared safely.
Our SIT contact guide can help with routing. For a different maritime research focus, see our FSSD electric harbour craft guide.
