Can You Renew a Libby Book? A Guide for Punggol Library Readers

Main building of One Punggol community hub in Singapore.

To renew an NLB e-book or audiobook in Libby, open Shelf, find the title under Loans and check Manage Loan. If Renew is available, follow the prompts and verify the new due date. If you see Place Hold instead, another reader may be waiting and you can join the queue to borrow it again.

Punggol Regional Library readers can do this from the app using their NLB account. Check a few days before the loan ends if you still have chapters to read or hours of audio left. That gives you time to decide whether to finish the book now or come back to it later.

  • Find the title under Shelf and Loans.
  • Check the due date before choosing an action.
  • Renew if offered, or use Place Hold if you need to borrow it again.
  • Return early from Manage Loan when you have finished.

Open the title’s loan details rather than searching for the book again. Check the format and due date. If you have the e-book and audiobook versions, check each loan separately. After choosing Renew, read the confirmation and verify the date under Loans.

Libby’s renewal help explains that the option becomes available a few days before the title is due. If you look too early, the app may tell you when to check again.

If another reader is waiting, Libby can offer Place Hold in place of renewal. You can use that button to join the waitlist. The new hold gives you another chance to borrow the title after a copy becomes available.

If you are nearly finished, decide how much time you can read before the due date. For example, if you have two audiobook chapters left, compare their length with the time you have before the loan ends. If you need to pause the book for longer, keep a note of the last chapter you completed.

Return a loan when you finish early

Open Manage Loan and choose Return Early if you are done. Check the title and format before confirming, especially if you have two editions or share reading time with another person. Returning early makes the digital copy available for another reader sooner. If you keep the book until the due date, Libby returns the loan automatically.
