SBS Transit Bus 32 connects Bedok with the Buona Vista area through Frankel Avenue, Katong, Dakota, Kampong Gelam, Bugis, City Hall, Fort Canning, Great World, Tiong Bahru Park, Redhill and Commonwealth. For a family outing, the clearest choices are a short public heritage walk, a carefully chosen Fort Canning visit or the smaller Tiong Bahru Park. For everyday travel, its residential streets can be more useful than the famous landmarks.
The critical rule is at the western end: passengers may not board or alight at Buona Vista Terminal. SBS Transit states this explicitly on the Service 32 page. Do not tell someone to stay aboard until the operational terminal. Towards Buona Vista, 11389 Buona Vista CC is the last listed roadside passenger reference before it; towards Bedok, the reverse list begins its roadside stops at 11189 Blk 43. Confirm the permitted stop that suits the actual destination.
Reviewed 5 November 2026. This guide also distinguishes Tiong Bahru Park from Tiong Bahru MRT, Buona Vista Terminal from Buona Vista MRT, and Fort Canning’s nearby bus stop from a suitable wheelchair entrance. These small naming differences can determine whether an outing works.

Bus 32 facts and selected stop codes
Service 32 is operated by SBS Transit. The operator lists Bedok-origin departures from 5.30am to 11.30pm daily and an opposite-end operating timetable of 6am to midnight daily. Because passengers cannot board at Buona Vista Terminal, that latter timetable must not be treated as an instruction to wait inside the terminal. Check the permitted roadside stop’s live arrivals. The published Bedok-to-Buona Vista route is about 22.8 kilometres. Official route and restriction.
| Place or purpose | Bedok towards Buona Vista | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Bedok origin | 84009 Bedok Int | The actual interchange start. |
| Frankel Avenue | 83209 Aft Frankel Terr | Residential streets and legitimate local visits. |
| Katong | 92119 Roxy Sq | East Coast Road shopping and public heritage streets. |
| Dakota | 81189 Dakota Stn Exit B/Blk 60 | Rail and a separately planned food-centre walk. |
| Kampong Gelam | 01229 Bef Sultan Mque | A public-street heritage approach. |
| National Library district | 01029 Opp Natl Lib | Find the actual public building entrance. |
| City Hall | 04168 Aft City Hall Stn Exit B | Use this code, not a similar stop from another route. |
| Fort Canning | 04331 Bef Fort Canning Stn | A nearby transport point, not the wheelchair entrance. |
| Great World | 13079 Great World Stn Exit 4 | River Valley Road station-side access. |
| Tiong Bahru Park | 10171 Opp Tiong Bahru Pk | The park, not Tiong Bahru MRT/Plaza’s named stop. |
| Redhill MRT | 10201 Opp Redhill Stn | A different rail precinct from Queenstown or Commonwealth. |
| Commonwealth MRT | 11161 C’wealth Stn Exit A/D | A named rail transfer on the western section. |
| Last roadside reference | 11389 Buona Vista CC | Choose a permitted alighting point before the terminal. |
| Operational endpoint | 11379 Buona Vista Ter | No passenger boarding or alighting. |
The table selects useful references from the operator’s outward sequence. It is not a claim that every destination entrance is beside its shelter. For the opposite side, use the separately published reverse list rather than changing a final digit yourself.
Frankel Avenue, Katong and Dakota: a neighbourhood start
Bus 32 leaves Bedok and turns through Frankel Avenue before reaching East Coast Road. This distinguishes it from other eastern routes that remain on Changi Road or follow Bedok South and Bayshore. For a resident visiting someone on Frankel Avenue, that difference may matter more than where the bus eventually terminates.
These are residential streets. A church, school or house named near a bus stop is a location reference, not an invitation to enter private grounds. For an appointment or family visit, obtain the exact gate and walking instructions. Do not substitute a neighbouring driveway because a map makes it look like a shorter route.
At Katong, a short public-street visit can combine a heritage explanation with a meal at an operating outlet. Use the NHB Katong–Joo Chiat material to distinguish historical information from guesses based on how a building looks. A child could identify one architectural detail and then look for its explanation, rather than photograph every frontage without understanding it.
Dakota provides another useful stopping option before the city. A food-centre visit needs an actual public entrance and current stall availability. The bus does not include a meal, and the existence of a market nearby does not guarantee a particular dish or trader is available. Keep the visit small enough that the return is easy.
Kampong Gelam, Bugis and City Hall
After the Kallang approach, the outward route uses Crawford Street and North Bridge Road, including the stop before Sultan Mosque. This is a practical approach for a limited public walk through Kampong Gelam. The National Heritage Board’s trail provides a framework for understanding the neighbourhood without inventing stories about individual buildings.
A useful family visit needs only one or two short streets and a question to explore. What did people trade here? How do public paths and shopfronts work together? Which parts of a place are still used for worship or daily work? Religious buildings have visitor rules independent of public-street access, so respect entry times, dress and ongoing services.
The bus then passes Bugis, the National Library district and City Hall. Choose the exact public institution or shop before deciding where to leave the bus. A library programme may require registration; a museum has its own admission; an office meeting may need identification. One road corridor serves all these different purposes without making them one attraction.
The return is not an exact mirror. In the opposite direction, Service 32 uses a different city sequence, including Armenian Church, Bugis station-side and Lavender stops. After a heritage walk, the most convenient return may be an MRT entrance or a different valid roadside stop, rather than the shelter where the family originally arrived.
Fort Canning: the entrance is part of the plan
One of Bus 32’s most useful differences is its River Valley Road stop at 04331 Bef Fort Canning Stn. It provides an approach to the Fort Canning district without going through Orchard. However, a nearby station stop does not place every visitor at the right hill entrance.
NParks specifies wheelchair access from the drop-off point at Cox Terrace roundabout. That is a more precise instruction than the general “wheelchair accessible” label. Do not promise a step-free route from the Fort Canning bus stop simply because the park and bus both have accessibility features. Use the official park access guidance to choose an appropriate approach.
Fort Canning is a 22-hectare hilltop park with historical and botanical features. NParks lists general park access as 24 hours, but that does not extend every gallery, event or internal facility to all-night admission. Choose one public garden or heritage section and check any specific visitor attraction separately.
For a child, a focused visit could involve reading one interpretation panel and observing how the hill’s paths, trees and historical structures shape the space. Set a turning point before the group becomes tired. Hill walking is different from strolling through a level mall, particularly in heat or wet conditions.
If the accessible approach is not practical for the group, choose a more suitable public destination rather than treating the hill as compulsory. A successful outing is one that the whole family can complete comfortably. The route offers Tiong Bahru Park as a different outdoor option farther west, with its own entrance and suitability to check.
Great World and River Valley: one address, not an entire district
The bus follows River Valley Road through the Great World district, using 13079 Great World Stn Exit 4 westbound and 13071 Great World Stn Exit 5 in the reverse direction. A shopping destination, a station platform and an office in the same neighbourhood can still have different public entrances.
For an errand, start with the retailer or appointment address and work backwards. Confirm the actual entrance, opening time and whether a reservation is needed. A shopping centre being accessible does not establish that every tenant is operating, or that a particular appointment accepts walk-ins.
This is a useful place to compare surface and rail travel. A resident near a River Valley bus stop may benefit from avoiding an additional station walk; another person already inside an MRT station may prefer the train. Count the whole journey rather than declaring one mode universally faster.
There is also no need to add a separate city walk after a completed errand. The bus connects several interesting districts, but the value of a route is helping a passenger reach the chosen one—not creating an obligation to visit all of them.
Tiong Bahru Park is not Tiong Bahru MRT or Tiong Bahru Market
Bus 32 serves 10171 Opp Tiong Bahru Pk towards Buona Vista and 10179 Tiong Bahru Pk towards Bedok. These are park-side references. The outward list does not include the named Tiong Bahru Stn/Plaza stop used by some other services. A traveller should not ask someone to wait inside the MRT concourse while expecting the bus to arrive at an interchange door.
NParks describes Tiong Bahru Park as a 3.3-hectare public park along Tiong Bahru Road and Lower Delta Road, generally open 24 hours, wheelchair accessible and elderly friendly. Its playground includes a tilting-train feature. Current equipment condition and weather still determine whether a particular activity is suitable on arrival.
This can be a simpler family outing than a long hill walk. Choose a short public circuit, a play area that is appropriate for the child and a place to rest. A quiet observation task—describing how different plants look or where shade falls—can provide learning value without making the visit strenuous.
The park, MRT, shopping mall and well-known market are separate places within the broader Tiong Bahru area. If the meal or market is the main purpose, use that actual address and check the walking route. Do not stretch a park-stop recommendation into a promise that every famous Tiong Bahru location is at the same entrance.
Redhill, Margaret Drive and Commonwealth
After the park corridor, Service 32 reaches Redhill MRT and then travels through Kay Siang Road and Margaret Drive towards Commonwealth. This gives useful public transport access to residential streets and legitimate school or community appointments. A school name on a stop is not a public invitation to enter classrooms or grounds.
Queenstown also has a substantive housing and public-service history. The National Library Board’s Queenstown resource explains its development as an early satellite town. A student can use that history to ask how housing, transport and community facilities relate, while making observations only from permitted public streets.
The reverse operator list contains a stop named 11481 Queenstown Lib. Treat this as a transport landmark, not proof of current library opening. Historical library accounts and older access leaflets do not establish today’s borrowing or programme availability. This guide does not promise an indoor library visit there: check current NLB arrangements before making that the sole purpose of the journey.
Commonwealth MRT is a named rail connection on the western section; Queenstown MRT is a different station. A passenger changing to rail should use the actual station-side stop and entrance rather than the broad estate name. The same discipline applies to a home visit: a complete block and entrance is more useful than the instruction “get off in Queenstown”.
Buona Vista Terminal: why the advertised endpoint is not a passenger stop
The operator’s warning is unambiguous: passengers cannot board or alight at Buona Vista Terminal. The printed endpoint describes how the bus operates, not an invitation for visitors to enter the terminal. This is the most important fact to retain when arranging a meeting at the western end. Read the note below the SBS Transit route table.
Towards Buona Vista, use a permitted earlier stop that matches the destination, such as the listed Buona Vista CC reference. For a Bedok-bound departure, the reverse table lists 11189 Blk 43 and subsequent roadside stops after the operational origin. Follow current signage and staff instructions rather than wandering into bus operating space.
Buona Vista MRT and The Star Vista are different destinations from the terminal itself. A route title alone is not evidence that the bus stops directly at their entrances. Someone attending a performance, meeting or appointment in the wider district should choose the actual venue and check the final public walking or connecting route.
The opposite-end 6am-to-midnight timetable therefore needs interpretation. It describes service operation from the terminal, not a boarding appointment inside a restricted passenger area. Obtain the live departure for the permitted roadside stop you intend to use, particularly when the onward rail connection is time-sensitive.
Three realistic outings
Kampong Gelam public heritage
Travel to 01229 Bef Sultan Mque, choose a limited public-street route using NHB’s trail and include one open meal or rest option. Respect religious-site access. Finish at a known public transport point rather than attempting the whole district in one outing. The return may sensibly be by rail or another verified Bus 32 shelter.
Fort Canning with the correct entrance
Choose the park section first. For an ordinary walking approach, check the public route from the Fort Canning station-side stop. For wheelchair access, use NParks’ specific Cox Terrace guidance rather than assuming the nearby bus shelter provides the correct entrance. Carry water, plan a manageable turn-around and avoid adding an unnecessary hill crossing just to return to the original road.
Tiong Bahru Park and a short neighbourhood visit
Use the park-side stop appropriate to the direction, follow a legal crossing and choose a modest play or garden activity. Keep a separate food plan based on an actual operating outlet. Do not assume the market, park and MRT are all one location. This may be the most manageable choice for a family that does not want a hill walk or a ticketed event.
An optional four-visit learning plan
On four separate occasions, practise reading a bus-stop code near Bedok; compare public architecture in Katong; learn one historical idea at Fort Canning; and compare the smaller Tiong Bahru Park with the hill park. After each visit, record the actual entrance and easiest return. The useful outcome is more accurate navigation and observation, not a claim that the child has completed an official programme.
When Bus 32 is the right choice—and when it is not
Bus 32 is particularly relevant for Frankel Avenue, the North Bridge Road heritage corridor, Fort Canning and the Margaret Drive/Commonwealth side. It is not a substitute for a bus to Orchard, HarbourFront or Chinatown MRT merely because it passes the city. Bus 33 takes a different city-to-west route through Chinatown, Tiong Bahru MRT and the campus-side Kent Ridge corridor. The exact destination should decide between them.
From Punggol, plan the initial connection to a real Service 32 stop. Do not count only the ride after boarding 32 while ignoring a long first transfer or final walk. The full journey includes home access, waiting, road traffic, a legal crossing and the destination entrance.
For accessibility, inspect those links individually. A public transport route may use accessible vehicles while a heritage hill has a specific accessible entrance elsewhere. A longer but suitable route can be preferable to a short staircase. If the required path is uncertain, verify it with the venue rather than treating a generic accessibility symbol as proof.
Keep the budget equally clear. Bus fares, food and any paid activity are separate. A public park can support an inexpensive outing, but that does not mean every indoor attraction within or near it is free. Check the chosen activity’s current terms rather than building a day around a vague promise of “free things along the route”.
Finally, allow the plan to become shorter. If weather, a closure or tiredness affects the activity, use the nearest verified safe return. The route is a means of reaching a place, not a challenge to ride every stop. One useful, comfortable visit is enough.
Frequently asked questions
Can I board or alight inside Buona Vista Terminal?
No. SBS Transit expressly prohibits both. Choose a permitted roadside stop from the correct directional list.
Is Buona Vista Terminal the MRT station?
No. The terminal, MRT station and nearby retail venues need separate location checks.
Does Bus 32 serve Fort Canning?
It serves the Fort Canning station-side road. Choose the actual park entrance, especially where wheelchair access is needed.
Is every Fort Canning entrance wheelchair accessible?
No. NParks specifies access from the Cox Terrace roundabout drop-off point. Do not generalise that to every roadside approach.
Does the Tiong Bahru Park stop mean Tiong Bahru MRT?
No. The park-side stops and the station/plaza stops are different. Map any onward walk separately.
Can I assume Queenstown Library is open because its stop remains listed?
No. A landmark can remain in a bus-stop name independently of a facility’s current visitor arrangements. Check NLB before planning an indoor visit.
Does it serve Orchard, HarbourFront or Sentosa?
Those are not destinations on the reviewed Service 32 stopping list. Choose a different verified route or connection.
Can I use the same stop to return?
Not automatically. The reverse route has different stop codes and some different streets, including the city and Margaret Drive sections.
