Bus Guide | Where to Go, What to Do | Interesting Places Go-Ahead Singapore Bus Service 39 Goes To

People at Punggol bus interchange during sunset.

Where does Go-Ahead Singapore Bus Service 39 go, and what interesting places can you visit? Bus 39 joins Tampines Concourse Interchange and Yishun Bus Interchange, travelling through Tampines, Pasir Ris, Punggol town centre, the Soo Teck area and Khatib. The route is interesting because it connects several rail nodes and neighbourhoods without being a bus that starts or ends in Punggol itself.

From Punggol, you can use the route in two different directions: towards Pasir Ris and Our Tampines Hub, or towards Yishun and Khatib. It passes the Punggol MRT/Waterway Point area, but does not enter Punggol Bus Interchange as one of its terminals. It also has two short-trip variants, 39A and 39B, that should not be mistaken for a full end-to-end Service 39.

This guide focuses on what readers can do at real stops: visit Pasir Ris Town Park via a correctly chosen walking route, attend a community activity at Our Tampines Hub, meet someone around Punggol MRT, transfer at Khatib, or complete an appointment in Yishun. It avoids pretending that a bus stop in a town makes every famous destination of that town directly accessible.

The short answer: where this bus goes

Go-Ahead Service 39 runs between Tampines Concourse Int (75019) and Yishun Int (59009). From Tampines towards Yishun, the published route serves Our Tampines Hub opposite stop 76059, Tampines East MRT Exit B (76031), Pasir Ris Int/Mall opposite stop 77031, Punggol Stn/Int roadside stop 65259, Soo Teck-side Punggol Way stop 65141, Yishun Sports Hall opposite stop 59031 and Khatib Stn Exit A (59041). The reverse direction passes Punggol Stn/Waterway Pt (65251), Pasir Ris Town Park (77049), and Our Tampines Hub (76051) before reaching Tampines Concourse. Read the direction because the most useful stop may be on only one leg.

Route facts: checked 31 October 2026

  • Operator: Go-Ahead Singapore.
  • End terminals: Tampines Concourse Int 75019 and Yishun Int 59009.
  • Punggol caveat: Bus 39 has roadside stops at Punggol MRT/Waterway Point; it does not list the Punggol Interchange 65009 berth.
  • Published first/last departures: Tampines Concourse 5.25am–11.30pm weekdays and 6am–11.30pm weekends; Yishun 6am–11.30pm all days, at the originating terminal.
  • Direction for Punggol to Yishun: board a Yishun-bound 39 at 65259 Punggol Stn/Int.
  • Direction for Punggol to Pasir Ris/Tampines: board a Tampines Concourse-bound 39 at 65251 Punggol Stn/Waterway Pt.
  • Variants: 39A runs from Pasir Ris Ctrl (Opp Pasir Ris Int/Mall) to Jln Kayu (Aft Piccadilly Circus/TPE); 39B runs from Punggol Way (Blk 220C) to Pasir Ris Ctrl (Pasir Ris Int/Mall). Neither is a full 39 to both terminals.

Where to alight: useful stops and real places

Stop codes below come from the operator’s published direction-specific route table. The stop is not necessarily at the exact entrance of the destination. Before travelling, check pedestrian access, a safe crossing, whether the activity is actually open and the return-direction stop.

Why Bus 39 can confuse Punggol residents: it goes through Punggol but is not based there

Several bus services begin or finish at Punggol Interchange; Service 39 is different. The operator lists its first stop as 75019 Tampines Concourse Int and its other terminal as 59009 Yishun Int. It calls at Punggol Central on the way but does not include stop 65009 Punggol Int in either terminal listing.

That means a passenger standing inside the Punggol Bus Interchange should not automatically look for Bus 39 beside Services 82, 83, 85 and 136. The relevant Service 39 stops are out on the surrounding road network. Towards Yishun, the published Punggol MRT-side stop is 65259 Punggol Stn/Int. Towards Pasir Ris and Tampines, the corresponding stop is 65251 Punggol Stn/Waterway Pt.

This small fact can make the whole journey easier. A child or visitor who knows the exact code can confirm the stop pole and direction without being misled by a similar station label. If you need step-free access, verify the pedestrian route between the MRT exits and the roadside shelter, including lifts and crossings.

From Punggol, the service is useful because the same stop area offers travel in two distinct directions. But the exact location of your home still matters. Someone near Soo Teck LRT may find a Punggol Way stop more convenient than walking or riding back to the MRT. Choose the first leg from your address, not from a generic Punggol town-centre map.

Towards Tampines: Our Tampines Hub is a community destination, not a single attraction

From the Yishun-to-Tampines direction, Bus 39 serves 76051 Our Tampines Hub. It is a confirmed relevant stop: the People’s Association’s official Our Tampines Hub page lists Bus 39 among services to the precinct and identifies the destination at 1 Tampines Walk.

What can you do there? Eat, attend a suitable public community programme, observe the integrated public spaces or use a sports facility if you have booked access. Some areas are freely accessible, while a sports court or ticketed event may require payment, registration or membership. The bus fare does not include any activity fee.

The hub is not the same place as Tampines Concourse Interchange, which is the bus’s terminal. A person who wants Our Tampines Hub should check the dedicated roadside stop rather than staying on to the last stop and then working backwards. A few minutes spent reading stop descriptions can save an unnecessary walk.

On the opposite side of the service, the bus stops at 76059 Opp Our Tampines Hub when travelling from Tampines towards Yishun. That is a different stop and requires a safe road crossing to reach the building. Read the displayed bus destination carefully before returning.

A family might combine one community activity with a meal; a student could compare the hub’s facilities with those at One Punggol. However, do not describe events as ‘happening today’ without checking the official event calendar. The value of the destination lies in the kinds of facilities available, not in a promised programme.

Tampines East: useful if you want the Downtown Line rather than the bus terminal

Service 39 also serves Tampines East MRT. The Tampines-to-Yishun direction calls at 76031 Tampines East Stn Exit B, and the Yishun-to-Tampines direction calls at 76039 Exit C. This station is on the Downtown Line and is different from the Tampines interchange complex served by the East–West and Downtown Lines further west.

For a direct connection to another rail destination, this may be the best place to leave the bus. For people visiting a nearby community club or restaurant, it can also be a reasonable starting point, but the named place’s actual address must determine which side of the road to use.

Someone travelling from Punggol who simply wants Tampines shopping should compare the whole Bus 39 ride and final walk with a mixed train or other bus route. Route 39 goes through several residential areas, so it is not automatically the fastest way to every Tampines destination.

Keep the route purpose clear. Bus 39 is valuable because it links several estates and rail nodes, not because it provides a free sightseeing tour of every place in Tampines.

Pasir Ris town centre: the rail connection, mall and park are different decisions

Between Tampines and Punggol, Bus 39 travels through Pasir Ris housing areas and passes the town centre. In the Tampines-to-Yishun direction it serves 77031 Opp Pasir Ris Int/Mall; the reverse direction serves 77039 Pasir Ris Int/Mall. This gives passengers the option of a meal, a town-centre errand or an East–West Line transfer.

Pasir Ris Town Park is an additional option, but it is a separate 14-hectare green space along Pasir Ris Central, opposite Pasir Ris MRT. NParks describes it as suitable for relaxed nature observation, walks and its fishing pond environment. Its park-page details can help a family choose a suitable entrance.

The operator’s Yishun-to-Tampines stop list includes a particularly helpful explicit stop called 77049 Pasir Ris Town Pk. If you are heading from Punggol towards Tampines, look for that stop and then use the marked park approach. In the opposite direction, the nearest appropriate boarding or alighting location may be a different stop in the Pasir Ris Central area. Do not silently assume stop 77049 exists in both directions.

There is another current detail that matters. NParks’ Tampines Park Connector guidance warns of a section temporarily closed along Pasir Ris Town Park and Pasir Ris Drive 1 for LTA construction works, and describes alternative routes around Blocks 424 or 534. This is exactly the kind of detail a walking itinerary can miss if it uses an old map. Recheck current notices and obey temporary diversions.

For a simple outing, choose one activity: a short walk around a safe open park area, a break for a meal or a train transfer. Pasir Ris Town Park is not the same as the much larger Pasir Ris Park beside the coast. If the mangrove boardwalk or beach is the purpose, choose that separate park entrance instead.

Punggol MRT and Soo Teck: choose the roadside stop, not the interchange name

Bus 39 uses Punggol Central and Punggol Way to cross the town. The two road-side Punggol MRT stops are called 65259 Punggol Stn/Int on the Yishun-bound side and 65251 Punggol Stn/Waterway Pt on the Tampines-bound side. The stop names refer to the surrounding transport district, not boarding inside Punggol Interchange.

This route also serves the Soo Teck LRT area: 65141 Aft Soo Teck Stn towards Yishun and 65149 Bef Soo Teck Stn towards Tampines. That gives some West Loop residents a chance to reach another town without first travelling all the way to Punggol MRT.

An ordinary visitor might use the Punggol MRT area for food, an errand or a meeting point. Waterway Point is a real mall beside the station, but individual shop hours still vary. Do not describe the mall as a direct Bus 39 terminal simply because the stop includes ‘Waterway Pt’ in its name.

Service 39 does not continue to Punggol Coast Interchange or Coney Island as part of its published route. If the purpose is a coastal walk, a new campus visit or Punggol Coast Mall, compare another route after reaching Punggol. Do not invent a direct service just because the destination lies in the same planning town.

Think of the town as a network of parts: Punggol MRT, Punggol Coast MRT, the East and West LRT loops, and the bus stops on Punggol Way. Once a person knows which part is actually served by 39, the rest of the journey becomes easier to reason about.

Yishun and Khatib: an ordinary northern-town outing with a real bus connection

After leaving Punggol on the Yishun-bound route, Bus 39 joins the Jalan Kayu and expressway corridor before reaching Lentor and Yishun. It passes named stops including 59031 Opp Yishun Sports Hall and 59041 Khatib Stn Exit A, then ends at Yishun Interchange (59009). The reverse direction uses 59039 Yishun Sports Hall and 59049 Opp Khatib Stn Exit A.

These are practical destinations for a sports booking, a train transfer, shopping or meeting someone. They are not evidence that every destination in Yishun is next to a stop. If you want Lower Seletar Reservoir Park or a specific park connector, choose the official park entrance and plan the additional route from there.

For a planned sports visit, confirm the venue and booking in advance. A bus stopping opposite a sports hall does not mean a court is available on arrival. If a family member has mobility limitations, consider the road crossing and entrance access.

Khatib MRT is on the North South Line. For some travellers, a transfer to rail will be the simplest way to finish the trip. For others whose homes or meetings are closer to Yishun Interchange, riding to the terminus makes sense. The endpoint should be chosen for the actual purpose, not because the route name includes Yishun.

Use a complete journey comparison before claiming Bus 39 is the fastest choice between Punggol and Yishun. The service has a long route through east and north Singapore, and conditions on its expressway stretch can vary.

The two short-trip traps: Service 39A and Service 39B

Go-Ahead’s Service 39 page lists two distinct short-trip patterns. 39A begins at 77031 Opp Pasir Ris Int/Mall and ends at 68119 Aft Piccadilly Circus/TPE on Jalan Kayu. It is not a full Tampines-to-Yishun service. If the desired destination is Yishun, do not assume a bus labelled 39A continues there.

39B starts at 65439 Blk 220C on Punggol Way and ends at 77039 Pasir Ris Int/Mall. It can be relevant to Punggol residents returning towards Pasir Ris, but it does not continue on to Tampines Concourse.

This is a useful example of why the letter on a Singapore bus is as important as the service number. Two buses marked 39 and 39B may share several stops but have different endpoints. A passenger wanting to travel past Pasir Ris may need the full 39 rather than the short-trip bus.

The short-trip schedules can also change. Read the actual bus display and the operator’s current service information before using a special variant for a time-critical journey. Never make a last-bus plan based on the idea that every variant will go wherever the main service goes.

If you accidentally take a short-trip bus, alight at a lawful stop or its endpoint and replan. Do not expect the driver to continue beyond the published service terminus or to stop between authorised shelters.

The best ways to avoid a poor Bus 39 outing

First, choose which of the route’s four main destination types matters: community activities at Our Tampines Hub, park and town-centre time in Pasir Ris, a Punggol meeting or northern transport and shopping at Khatib/Yishun. Do not build an itinerary around all four unless you have a very specific reason and enough travel time.

Second, write down the full stop name and code. For example, Punggol Stn/Waterway Pt (65251) and Punggol Stn/Int (65259) are different sides of the route. A destination word without the number is not enough for a first-time visitor standing in a large bus-rail complex.

Third, separate bus operations from venue access. A bus can be on time while a sports facility is closed; a park can be open while a connector section is under construction; a mall can be open while a particular shop has not opened. Each is a different kind of condition to verify.

Fourth, plan the return journey before committing to a long walk. The last departure listed at Yishun or Tampines Concourse is timed from that terminal, not from Punggol MRT. If someone needs to arrive home at a fixed time, use live arrivals and keep an alternative route available.

Finally, if the weather changes or a child becomes tired, shorten the outing. The purpose of a bus guide is to make public transport understandable and useful, not to turn a long service into an endurance test.

Three outings worth planning

A nature stop at Pasir Ris Town Park

From Punggol, board the Tampines Concourse-bound full Service 39 at 65251 Punggol Stn/Waterway Pt (or a suitable stop). Alight near 77049 Pasir Ris Town Pk, use the approved park entrance and check NParks’ current connector diversions. Enjoy a modest walk and then choose the verified direction back home.

Our Tampines Hub for a family activity

Choose an actual programme, public space or pre-booked sport at Our Tampines Hub, then use full 39 towards Tampines Concourse to stop 76051. Return from the correct opposite-side bus stop, or compare an MRT option; do not confuse Tampines Concourse Interchange with the main Tampines Interchange.

Khatib and Yishun connection day

Use the Yishun-bound 39 from Punggol at stop 65259, travel to Khatib Exit A (59041) for a North South Line transfer or continue to Yishun Int (59009) for a town-centre activity. Note that 39A would not take you to Yishun.

What can go wrong, and how to fix it

  • Searching inside Punggol Interchange: Full 39 passes Punggol MRT on roadside stops; it does not originate at stop 65009.
  • Boarding the wrong Punggol side: 65259 is Yishun-bound, while 65251 is Tampines Concourse-bound.
  • Confusing Tampines bus terminals: Service 39 uses Tampines Concourse Int 75019, not Tampines Int 75009.
  • Misreading 39A: This short trip ends near Piccadilly Circus/TPE on Jalan Kayu, not Yishun.
  • Misreading 39B: This short trip from Punggol Way ends at Pasir Ris Int/Mall, not Tampines Concourse.
  • Wrong park: Pasir Ris Town Park opposite the MRT is distinct from the coastal Pasir Ris Park.
  • Temporary connector closure: NParks warns of construction works along Pasir Ris Town Park and Pasir Ris Drive 1; follow live diversions.
  • Wrong Yishun sports stop: The two sides are 59031 and 59039. Check venue access and bookings.
  • Late last-bus assumption: The published last departure at an interchange is not automatically the last departure at Punggol or Pasir Ris.
