Retiring in Punggol: Staying Active, Volunteering and Finding Your Next Chapter

Walking and running path along the Punggol Waterway beside Waterway Point

If you are retiring in Punggol, three easy first steps help: find free “Live Well, Age Well” exercise sessions in the Healthy 365 app, pick up the PAssion Silver Concession Card at 60 if you are a citizen, and register to volunteer with the SG Cares Volunteer Centre @ Punggol on 6038 4070.

Retirement is a big change, even a welcome one. The weeks feel better when they have a shape: something active, something to learn and someone to help.

This page is part of eduKate Punggol’s When You Need Help in Punggol, our practical guides for life’s occasions, big and small. It covers staying active for little or no cost, health checks, learning, volunteering and the places in Punggol where a new routine can start. For CPF and re-employment, we point you to our detailed guides.

Quick answer

  • Stay active: the Health Promotion Board’s Live Well, Age Well programme offers free activities for adults aged 50 and above, with some exceptions. Search “Live Active” in the Healthy 365 app.
  • Health check: Project Silver Screen checks eyes, ears and mouth for people aged 60 and over, at $0, $2 or $5 depending on your card.
  • Swimming: ActiveSG senior entry, for those aged 55 and over, is $0.50 on weekdays at standard pools. Check live.
  • Volunteer: SG Cares Volunteer Centre @ Punggol, run by Allkin, on 6038 4070, or train as an AIC Silver Generation Ambassador.
  • Learn: the National Silver Academy offers courses for people aged 50 and above. Check current details live.
  • Note: Punggol Regional Sport Centre is not open yet as of October 2026.

Retiring in Punggol: First Steps

There is no need to fill every day at once. Try these in the first month and keep what you enjoy.

  1. Settle the money questions first. Our guides to CPF, retirement sums and CPF LIFE and to retirement and re-employment ages cover the details.
  2. Book a health check. At 60 and over, Project Silver Screen screens eyes, ears and mouth. HealthHub says subsidised health screening at CHAS GPs costs no more than $51, as a separate service.
  3. Download Healthy 365. Go to Explore, then Events, and search “Live Active”. Filter by location to find sessions near Punggol.
  4. Get the concession card. Citizens aged 60 and over can apply for the PAssion Silver Concession Card, which also gives member rates at Community Centres.
  5. Drop in to an Active Ageing Centre. Punggol has several, listed below. They are a friendly way to meet neighbours.
  6. Pick one volunteering commitment. One regular slot a week is easier to keep than several scattered ones.
  7. Choose one course. Learning something new, from photography to a language, gives the week an anchor.

Which Situation Fits You

You want to keep fit

Live Well, Age Well’s “Live Active” sessions include Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates and Zumba Gold, and there is a 12-session falls-prevention programme. HealthHub says the programme is being rolled out to all Community Clubs, with some sessions at Residents’ Committees, Residents’ Networks and Active Ageing Centres. Our guide to sports facilities in Punggol lists other options.

You were waiting for the new sport centre

Punggol Regional Sport Centre at 11 Sentul Crescent was first due in 2023. MCCY said in November 2024 that it had been rescheduled to 2026, and we found no official opening notice as of October 2026. When MCCY announced the delay, it pointed residents to school halls under the Dual-Use Scheme and to Sengkang Sport Centre in the meantime.

You want to give back

The SG Cares Volunteer Centre @ Punggol matches volunteers with causes in the town. If you enjoy talking to older residents, consider becoming one of AIC’s Silver Generation Ambassadors, who volunteer with its Silver Generation Office. The office reaches seniors through home visits, calls and community programmes. You need to be a citizen or PR aged at least 18 with basic computer skills, and complete at least 15 hours of training plus practice sessions. AIC encourages at least four hours a session and a minimum of six months. Our guide to volunteering in Punggol has more ideas.

You want to keep learning

The National Silver Academy offers learning for people aged 50 and above: short life-skills and work-skills courses from institutions and community groups, subsidised for eligible seniors, and exam-free modules from ITE, polytechnic and university programmes for a token fee. It also runs an Intergenerational Learning Programme. The Council for Third Age’s pages now redirect to AIC, so check the latest contact details. Our SkillsFuture explainer covers credits you may be able to use.

You want to keep working a little

If you would like to stay on part-time or be re-employed, our retirement age and re-employment guide explains your rights.

The days feel empty

An Active Ageing Centre, a weekly class or a volunteering slot gives you somewhere to be and people who notice if you are missing. If low mood lingers, talk to your doctor or call the National Mindline on 1771.

Costs for Staying Active

  • Live Well, Age Well: free for adults aged 50 and above, with some exceptions.
  • Project Silver Screen: $0, $2 or $5 for basic screening, depending on your card. Follow-up tests and devices may cost more.
  • ActiveSG swimming (seniors aged 55 and over, citizens and PRs): $0.50 on weekdays and $0.60 on weekends and public holidays at standard pools; $0.80 and $1.00 at pools with special features.
  • ActiveSG gym: $1.50 a visit for seniors.
  • Passes: MyActiveSWIM for seniors is $5 a month or $50 a year for standard pools ($60 a year for all pools). MyActiveGYM for seniors is $18 for a month at peak times, or $9 off-peak.
  • PAssion Silver Concession Card: free to apply, with a $4 minimum top-up to activate. It lets you buy a $55 monthly pass for unlimited train and basic bus rides.

ActiveSG updated its rates page on 25 August 2026, but the table layout is hard to read, so check the figures live before you buy a pass. For the National Silver Academy, we found only figures from its 2016 launch, so ask the course provider for current fees.

Neighbour’s Tips

  • Book through Healthy 365. Only sessions with open slots appear, so check back if a class is full.
  • Book Project Silver Screen when you turn 60. Basic tests cost between $0 and $5.
  • Swim on weekdays. Senior entry at standard pools is 50 cents on weekdays, against 60 cents at weekends.
  • Volunteer close to home. A centre within walking distance makes it easier to keep going when the weather turns.
  • Give it six months. AIC suggests that minimum for Silver Generation Ambassadors, and it is a fair test for any new habit.
  • Carry your concession card to the Community Centre. The card gives you member rates at Community Centres, which helps with CC courses.
  • Be wary of “investment opportunities”. If an offer arrives by message or call, check with ScamShield on 1799 before you pay anyone.
  • Explore gently. Our guide to things to do in Punggol for seniors has easy outings to start with.

If It’s Urgent or Gets Worse

Call 995 if someone collapses, struggles to breathe or shows signs of a stroke during exercise. MOH lists cardiac arrest, breathlessness, loss of consciousness and stroke as emergencies.

Retirement can bring unexpected loneliness or low mood. The National Mindline (1771) and Samaritans of Singapore (1767) are open 24 hours, and CareText is on WhatsApp at 9151 1767.
