The main money changer Punggol has is Punggol Exchange, on basement 2 of Waterway Point beside Punggol MRT. MAS lists it as a money-changing licensee, so it changes cash but does not send money overseas. To send money home, use a licensed remittance provider or your bank, and check the MAS directory first.
Changing money for a holiday should feel exciting, not nerve-racking. A two-minute licence check keeps it that way.
This page is part of eduKate Punggol’s Essential Information for Punggol, our quick answers and where-to-go lists for everyday life in Punggol. It lists the money changers and remittance counters we could find, explains the difference between the two licences, and shows how to check a shop before you hand over cash.

Hours checked October 2026 — confirm with the shop before you go, and check every provider in the MAS Financial Institutions Directory. The hours above come from a third-party mall directory rather than the shops themselves. Two sources give different phone numbers for Punggol Exchange; we have used the one in the MAS directory.
Changing Money and Sending Money Are Different Licences
This is the one rule that saves the most trouble. In Singapore, both money-changing and cross-border money transfer (remittance) are regulated payment services. MAS says providers must hold a licence: a money-changing licence, or a standard or major payment institution licence.
- A money-changing licensee can only change money. The MAS directory says so plainly: “Money-changing licensees provide only money-changing services.”
- A remittance provider should show “Cross-border Money Transfer Service” among the activities in its MAS directory entry.
- MAS encourages the public to deal only with institutions listed in its directory.
So a shop sign that says “money changer and remittance” is a claim, not proof. The directory entry is the proof. Licences can also be revoked, so a shop that was licensed years ago may not be licensed today.
Which Option Fits You
Holiday cash for the family
Punggol Exchange is the nearest. Work out how much you need in each currency before you go, so you are not doing sums at the counter while the children pull at your sleeve. If you need a large amount of a less common currency, call ahead and ask whether they have enough in stock.
Sending money to family overseas
Use a provider whose MAS entry shows cross-border money transfer, or your bank. JC Global at Waterway Point is listed for remittance; check its directory entry first. If you work in Punggol on a work pass, our guide to Employment Pass, S Pass and Work Permit rules covers the bigger picture.
You already bank with a Waterway Point bank
Check your bank’s app before you queue. If it offers overseas transfers, you can compare the rate and fees on screen without any pressure.
Late at night
We found no 24-hour money changer in Punggol. Punggol Exchange’s listed closing time is 10pm (check live). If you fly early tomorrow, change your money today.
How to Check a Money Changer Punggol Residents Can Trust
- Note the company name. Ask for the registered company name, or read it off a receipt. It can differ from the shop sign.
- Search the MAS directory. Open the MAS Financial Institutions Directory and search for that name.
- Read the licence type. Money-changing only, or a payment institution licence?
- Check the activities. To send money abroad, the entry should list “Cross-border Money Transfer Service”.
- Match the address. Make sure the outlet you are standing at is the one in the entry.
- Agree the numbers first. Ask for the exchange rate, any fee and the total before you hand over money.
- Count and keep. Count your notes at the counter, and keep the receipt until your trip or transfer is complete.
What to Prepare Before Sending Money
- Your identification: ask the provider beforehand which documents it accepts, and bring the original.
- The recipient’s details: full name exactly as it appears on the receiving account, the bank’s name, the account number and the country.
- The amount and currency: decide which number matters most to you, the amount you send or the amount they receive.
- A way to confirm: tell the recipient to expect the money, and keep the receipt or reference number until they confirm it has arrived.
Rates and Fees
We have not published rates or fees, because they change daily and differ by provider. Two things decide your cost: the exchange rate the shop gives you, and any fee on top. A good rate with a high fee can cost more than a slightly worse rate with no fee, so always compare the final total. For a transfer, that means the amount your family actually receives.
Ask for the rate and total in writing, or take a photo of the rate board and the receipt. It makes any later question much easier to sort out.
Neighbour’s Tips
- Head for B2. Punggol Exchange (#B2-16A) and the JC Global kiosk (#B2-K11) are both listed on basement 2 of Waterway Point (check live for the kiosk).
- Beat the holiday rush. The year-end school holidays start on Saturday 21 November 2026. Sort out holiday currency before then, rather than on the evening before your flight.
- Trust the MAS phone number. Where sources disagree, the MAS directory is the official record.
- Check every new provider. Licences can be revoked. Check the directory again if you have not used a shop for a while.
- Never deal with a stranger online. Offers of “better rates” through social media or chat apps, or requests to send money for someone you have never met, are classic scam signs.
- Keep small notes for arrival. Ask for some smaller notes for taxis and snacks on the first day abroad.
If Something Goes Wrong
- You think you have sent money to a scammer: contact your bank or provider at once, then follow our guide on what to do in the first hour.
- A call or message about a transfer seems odd: check it with ScamShield on 1799.
- You are threatened or in danger: call the Police on 999.
- A transfer has not arrived: go back to the provider with your receipt and reference number, and ask them to trace it.
