Which Help Fits Your Family

You want a confinement nanny from Malaysia

MOM’s special permit lasts up to 16 weeks from the baby’s birth and cannot be renewed. You can apply yourself or through an employment agent you appoint. The steps are below.

Breastfeeding is hard going

If your baby is seen at Punggol Polyclinic, ask about the wellness hub at the next check-up. Between visits, KKH’s lactation line and the Breastfeeding Mothers’ Support Group hotline are a phone call away. If you delivered at KKH, the ward’s electric breast pumps are free to use during your stay.

You are a first-time mum

Living in Punggol puts you inside KKH’s EMPOWER² home-visit area. SingHealth’s announcement of 29 July 2026 described it as a pilot running since May 2025 and did not give a sign-up contact, so raise it with your KKH care team before the birth.

You feel low, anxious or not yourself

KKH says baby blues that last beyond two weeks need professional advice, and moderate or severe postnatal depression needs medical attention. Punggol Polyclinic’s hub screens for postnatal depression and refers you on. HealthHub’s Parent Hub also has a Postnatal Depression Self-Assessment tool.

After the 16 weeks

If you still need help at home when the confinement nanny’s permit ends, MOM suggests considering a migrant domestic worker Work Permit instead. Our guide to household helpers and safe domestic work has related tips.

How to Hire a Confinement Nanny in Punggol, Step by Step

  1. Check you both qualify. You must be 21 or older when you apply, and your baby under four months old. She must be Malaysian, aged at least 23 and below 70, and will work only as your confinement nanny, at your home.
  2. Get her written consent. MOM needs it before you apply.
  3. Apply early. Apply through MOM’s FDW eService from four weeks before your expected delivery date, up to 16 weeks after the birth. If you use an agent, authorise them first.
  4. Pay the $35 fee. MOM accepts Visa, Mastercard and PayNow.
  5. Buy medical insurance. It is required for this permit.
  6. Wait for approval. Applications are usually processed within one week. She prints her In-Principle Approval letter to show immigration when she arrives.
  7. Tell MOM her start date before she begins work.
  8. Pay the levy. $60 a month for a Singapore Citizen baby, or $300 a month for a non-citizen baby.

What to Prepare Before the Birth

  • Your expected delivery date, and the confinement nanny’s details and written consent.
  • Singpass on your phone, for online services such as registering your baby’s birth on LifeSG.
  • Saved numbers: Punggol Polyclinic 6643 6969, KKH 6225 5554, and the support hotlines above.
  • A note of when your postnatal check is due, and your baby’s first polyclinic visit.
  • A comfortable feeding corner at home, and a plan for who covers the night feeds.

Costs and Eligibility

  • Confinement nanny permit: $35 application fee, plus a levy of $60 or $300 a month depending on your baby’s citizenship. There is no minimum salary, and family passes are not available. Full rules are on MOM’s key facts page.
  • KKH breastfeeding counselling before birth: complimentary for all KKH patients.
  • Not verified by us: lactation clinic fees, breast-pump rental prices and confinement nanny salaries, so ask before you commit.
  • Baby Bonus and parental leave: see our guide to birth registration, Baby Bonus and parental leave.

Neighbour’s Tips for the First Weeks

  • Apply for the permit before the birth. The 16 weeks count from your baby’s birth date, so a late application simply loses weeks.
  • Leave a clear message with KKH’s operator. Ask for Lactation Services and leave your details, and a lactation consultant will call you back.
  • Use the polyclinic visits. The wellness hub at Punggol Polyclinic is there during your baby’s check-ups, so ask about feeding and your own mood while you are in the building.
  • Know your nursing rooms. Our rest stops and nursing rooms guide covers nursing rooms, seats and toilets along family routes.
  • Keep your own check-up. Your doctor wants to see you again about four to six weeks after the birth, and a Pap smear is usually done then.
  • Short walks help. Our new parents guide has ideas for gentle stroller walks when you feel ready.
  • Say yes to help. When a neighbour offers to drop off dinner, the right answer is “thank you”.

If It Is Urgent

  • Emergency for mother or baby: call 995.
  • A problem after the pregnancy: KKH’s Urgent O&G Centre, Basement 1, Women’s Tower, is open 24 hours and sees post-pregnancy conditions.
  • Feeling unsafe or overwhelmed: do not wait. Our mental health help page lists crisis lines and counselling, and 995 is always there if someone is in immediate danger.
