Switching electricity retailers for a Punggol home is a contract change coordinated by your chosen retailer with SP Group. It is not a request to disconnect the home’s utilities. Check your existing contract’s expiry and exit terms before agreeing to a new start date.
Ask how you will be billed after the switch. Open Electricity Market guidance explains that some retailers bill electricity directly, with a separate SP bill for other utilities, while others bill through SP Group. Your payment arrangements need to match the actual billing route.
The retailer will advise how and when to submit the relevant meter reading; otherwise SP Group may estimate it. Keep the switching confirmation and check the final old-provider bill and first new-provider bill against the confirmed changeover dates.

Establish who holds the current contract
Find the account holder’s name, supply address, retailer and contract end date. If you are helping a family member, use the provider’s authorised process rather than borrowing login credentials.
For a rented Punggol home, clarify who is responsible for the account before arranging a switch. A tenant and owner should not independently submit competing instructions for the same premises.
Confirm the start date rather than assuming it
Ask the new retailer to confirm the switch date and any information still required. The date you select an offer and the date its charges begin are not necessarily the same.
Keep the old provider’s exit conditions in view. Do not schedule a new arrangement on the assumption that a reminder, application or sales conversation has already completed the switch.
Check payments after the change
If electricity will be billed directly by the retailer, ask how to set up its payment method. Do not assume an existing SP GIRO instruction pays a bill issued by a different company.
Continue checking non-electricity bills too. If a payment appears missing or duplicated, compare the billing periods and payees before cancelling instructions or submitting another payment.
Treat moving house as a separate task
A supplier switch at the same address and closing an account because you are leaving are different requests. Tell the provider which situation applies before completing a form.
For a change of home, see our Punggol utilities account guide. For the switch itself, keep the contract, confirmation and first bills together so any question can be traced to a specific period.
