If your Punggol home’s electricity retailer contract has auto-renewed, find the renewal date and contact the retailer promptly about your options. From 19 June 2026, EMA’s enhanced safeguards require early termination fees to be waived within the first 60 days of residential contract auto-renewal.
The updated rules also require two renewal notifications using both mail communication, such as email or post, and mobile communication. Check your messages and retailer account, but do not wait for a missing notification to be resolved before asking about a possible deadline.
This is a safeguard for an automatically renewed residential electricity contract, not a universal cooling-off period for every new contract. EMA says these requirements do not apply to customers buying electricity from SP Group at the regulated tariff.

Confirm what actually renewed · Ask for the applicable deadline in writing · Review the renewal notifications · Make the next choice deliberately
Confirm what actually renewed
Locate the old contract, the renewal notification and the new term’s start date. Check whether you actively signed a new offer or whether an existing auto-renewal clause took effect.
Keep those two situations separate when describing the issue to the retailer. A recent bill arriving in your inbox does not, by itself, identify the contract event or its date.
Ask for the applicable deadline in writing
Ask the retailer to confirm the renewed term, rate and last date for exercising the applicable fee-waiver option. Do not assume that 60 days means two calendar months.
The waiver concerns an early termination fee; it does not mean electricity already consumed is free. Ask the retailer to explain the remaining bill and how any switch or termination will be carried out.
Review the renewal notifications
Check the contact details held by the retailer and retain copies of notices you received. If a notice was not received, explain that clearly and ask for its sending date and communication channel.
Avoid deleting relevant messages while the enquiry is open. A simple timeline of contract expiry, renewal and your enquiry is more useful than an undated screenshot.
Make the next choice deliberately
Compare the available choices and conditions before selecting a replacement contract. Do not assume an auto-renewed offer is identical to your old plan or automatically the best current offer.
If you do not want a future auto-renewal, tell the retailer by the deadline in its notification and keep confirmation. Follow up promptly if the response is unclear; this guide cannot decide a contractual dispute or extend a deadline.
