Before fitting a digital lock to a Punggol home’s main door, establish whether that door is fire-rated. SCDF says serial labels near the hinges or door frame can identify the fire rating; ask HDB or the condominium’s MCST if you are unsure.
From 1 March 2024, a digital lock installed on a fire-rated door must be certified for fire resistance. The lock may be certified together with the door or individually, so ask for the relevant Certificate of Conformity rather than accepting an advertisement’s general “fire-rated” claim.
Match the actual lock brand and model to the certificate. SCDF also says the lock’s fire rating must be at least the door’s rating, with the relevant fail-safe feature and test-standard information. Ask the supplier to explain compatibility before installation.

Check the door before choosing the lock
Keep a photograph of the door label and the proposed lock model details. A salesperson can give a more specific answer when it knows which door the product will be fitted to.
Do not assume every door in a Punggol block has the same history. A previous owner may have changed fittings, so check the actual door rather than copying a neighbour’s purchase.
Ask which certification route applies
For a lock certified together with a door, SCDF advises checking that the lock’s brand and model are listed in the door’s certificate, usually its appendix. For an individually certified product, request the product certificate.
Keep the evidence with the quotation. Ask for written confirmation if the supplier proposes a different model at installation; a similar product name is not enough to establish the same certification.
Confirm the complete installation scope
Clarify whether the job changes only the lock or also the door, frame or other hardware. Ask the supplier to confirm that the intended combination and installation meet the applicable requirements.
Agree who will answer a technical question before any modification begins. This guide does not assess the existing door or authorise drilling or alterations.
Treat an older installation as its own question
SCDF encourages owners of residential fire doors with uncertified digital locks installed before 1 March 2024 to replace them with certified locks. Do not confuse that guidance with the rule for a new installation.
Retain the installation date, model details and certification records. For uncertainty about requirements or an existing setup, use SCDF’s official guidance and enquiry route rather than deciding from a sales label alone.
