Preschools in Punggol may administer medicine with written parental authorisation, according to ECDA. However, a preschool can have a stricter policy and decline certain medicines or all medication.
Check the parent handbook and speak to the centre before sending medicine. ECDA says containers should identify the child and provide administration instructions, and administration must be properly recorded.
This guide concerns preschool arrangements, not which medicine or dose your child should receive. Obtain medical instructions from your child’s clinician or pharmacist, and resolve anything unclear before agreeing on a handover.
CHAPTER 1 OF 3
Confirm the centre’s policy first
The ECDA medicine-administration FAQ says centre policies should be communicated to parents and included in the handbook. Permission to administer is not a requirement to accept every request.
Ask what authorisation form the centre uses and who will explain its process. If it cannot undertake the requested arrangement, discuss an appropriate alternative with the clinician and centre; do not alter prescribed instructions yourself.
CHAPTER 2 OF 3
Clarify authorisation and administration records
ECDA identifies records covering the child and medicine, dose, administration method, date and time, the administrator’s name and signature, and the parent or guardian’s written authorisation, name and signature.
Ask how you will be told what was administered. If instructions change or a handover detail is uncertain, contact the centre and treating professional to clarify rather than asking staff to guess.
CHAPTER 3 OF 3
Ask how medicine is stored and returned
ECDA’s medicine-storage FAQ requires oral and external medication to be stored separately, safely and beyond children’s reach.
Ask the centre how it handles your medicine’s specific storage instructions, collection and return. Keep this discussion separate from whether your child is well enough to attend; follow the relevant medical advice and centre attendance policy.
Information checked on 16 October 2026. Confirm the applicable requirements and your child’s arrangements with the centre and relevant professionals.
