Preschool staff-child ratios in Punggol depend on the children’s age and the staffing arrangement. ECDA publishes minimum qualified programme staffing ratios, rather than one ratio that applies to every preschool class.
For the standard arrangement, ECDA lists one staff member to five infants, eight playgroup children, twelve pre-nursery children, fifteen nursery children, twenty K1 children or twenty-five K2 children. The additional Assistant Educator arrangements are different and appear below.

In the final column, “1 + 1” means the programme staffing arrangement with an additional Assistant Educator, not a claim that two staff members have identical roles.

Distinguish staffing requirements from a class description
ECDA explains that its ratios are minimum requirements for licensed operations and that qualifications also matter. The numbers alone do not describe the whole learning experience.
Ask: “How many children are in this group, who leads the programme, and which staffing arrangement are you using?” These questions are clearer than asking only whether a class is small.

Ask about your child’s actual day
Ask the principal to explain staffing during activities, handovers and staff absences. If an answer seems inconsistent with the applicable ratio, request clarification of the exact age group and roles involved.
