Food Allergies at Preschool in Punggol: What Parents Should Arrange

If your child has a food allergy and is starting preschool in Punggol, tell the centre before enrolment. ECDA advises discussing arrangements early so you can assess whether the preschool can meet your child’s needs.

For a child with a known high-risk food allergy, ECDA says parents should provide an Action Plan for Anaphylaxis signed by a medical practitioner. Work from your child’s own medical plan rather than a generic online checklist.

Before deciding on a place, ask how the centre would put the agreed arrangements into practice during meals, snacks and special activities. This is a planning guide, not a substitute for allergy assessment or emergency medical instructions.

CHAPTER 1 OF 3

Have the conversation before accepting a place

The ECDA food-allergy guidance links early disclosure with making an informed enrolment decision. Explain your child’s known allergy and bring the relevant medical instructions.

Ask who will coordinate the discussion and whether the centre needs more information from the treating clinician. Do not assume a standard menu description settles the arrangements for your child.

CHAPTER 2 OF 3

Discuss how the medical plan will be used

Where the clinician-signed action plan applies, ask who needs to know about it, where it will be available and how staff will respond in line with it. Clarify any required medication arrangements with the centre and clinician.

For the separate administration process, read ECDA’s medication FAQ. Do not invent a dose, treatment sequence or substitute plan from this article.

CHAPTER 3 OF 3

Agree on food and communication arrangements

Ask about ingredients, preparation, shared food, celebrations and excursions, including what happens when the usual menu changes. These are suggested questions to help you assess the arrangement, not a guarantee that every centre can meet every request.

Record what has been agreed and ask how updates will be shared. ECDA encourages parents with special dietary requirements to discuss expectations and concerns with the preschool to reach mutual agreement. Revisit the arrangements when medical advice or centre circumstances change.
