The Stories Come Alive Room at Punggol Library is a Level 1 storytelling space inside One Punggol. NLB’s opening information describes moving images, text, light and sound used to bring stories to life, with the children’s storytelling experience designed for ages four to ten.
To attend a storytelling session at Punggol Regional Library, check the current event listing linked from the official library page. Read the session’s age range, date, time and registration instructions. The room’s existence does not mean a live storytelling programme is running whenever the library is open.
Punggol Library is at 1 Punggol Drive, One Punggol #01-12, Singapore 828629. Main hours are 10am–9pm daily, with extended morning access from 9am and staff-assisted services from 10am. Follow the programme’s confirmed start time and check holiday closures before making a special trip.

What makes the Stories Come Alive Room different?
The NLB opening announcement explains the room’s multimedia storytelling approach. It also introduced Words That Move, presenting Singapore poetry through animated words, images and sound.
Read the display or session instructions when you arrive. An immersive room, a poetry showcase and a facilitated storytelling session can offer different experiences, even when they use the same space.
Let the child notice the story before asking many questions. You might talk afterwards about one character, an image or a sound that stood out. These are optional family conversation ideas rather than a prescribed programme.
How to find a current storytelling session
Open the official Punggol Library page and follow its current event listings. Check that the listing names Punggol Library and the correct room or level.
Read the date carefully, including the year. Search results can retain past storytelling events, and a familiar programme title does not establish that the same session is happening this weekend.
Follow the listing’s registration process if one is required. If places are unavailable, choose another listed session or plan a reading visit instead of assuming arrival at the room secures participation.
Age ranges, format and what to ask
Use the age guidance in the specific event listing when choosing a facilitated session. The room’s original audience description is background; a particular programme may be designed for a narrower age group.
Ask the library about any practical issue that affects attendance, such as accompanying adults or arrangements for a child who needs help participating. Obtain the answer for the session you are considering.
Because the space uses sound and light, describe it to your child before the visit if unfamiliar settings are difficult. Allow time to settle in and keep the outing flexible rather than committing to several activities in quick succession.
Making the visit part of a reading outing
Choose one main activity and leave time for browsing books. After a story, invite the child to select a related picture book or point to a page that reminds them of something they saw.
Keep follow-up questions light. “Which part would you tell someone about?” can start a conversation without requiring a polished retelling. Older children might enjoy imagining a different ending or drawing a scene afterwards.
For younger siblings, our Toy Library and TinkerTots guide explains another Level 1 option. Choose the activity that fits each child rather than expecting one session to suit every age.
Finding the room and checking the schedule
Once inside Punggol Library, follow the Level 1 signs or ask staff for the Stories Come Alive Room. For a booked programme, have the event details ready so staff can direct you to the right session.
The library closes on public holidays and at 5pm on the eves of Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year. Room activities should be checked separately; general extended access is not a storytelling timetable.
For the wider literary and heritage visit, see our Punggol Stories exhibition guide. Start with the confirmed session, then add another stop only if your family has time and interest.
