Punggol Library Toy Library and TinkerTots: Free Play, Ages and Visiting Guide

Exterior of the One Punggol building in Singapore.

Punggol Library’s Toy Library and TinkerTots are Level 1 children’s spaces inside One Punggol, designed for children aged six and below. Families looking for free play at Punggol Regional Library can combine educational toys, simple tinkering and a short reading session in one visit.

The Toy Library offers toys for use within the library. It does not operate a take-home toy lending service: the Ministry of Digital Development and Information confirmed free onsite play in its written parliamentary answer dated 15 October 2025. Plan to enjoy the materials there and leave them for other families.

Punggol Library is at 1 Punggol Drive, One Punggol #01-12, Singapore 828629. Its main opening hours are 10am–9pm daily, with extended access from 9am–10am and staff-assisted services starting at 10am. For a first visit with children, arriving after 10am makes it easier to ask staff about the play areas; check room notices and holiday hours before travelling.

What are the Toy Library and TinkerTots?

NLB’s official opening information describes the Toy Library as a place for different forms of play, including creative, dramatic and sensory activities. TinkerTots provides educational toys and simple DIY tinkering under parental supervision. Both were introduced for children aged six and below.

Use these descriptions to choose a starting point. A child who enjoys making up a story may prefer imaginative play; another may want to explore how pieces fit together. Follow the materials and instructions available on the day rather than expecting a particular toy from an older photograph.

The NLB opening announcement explains the purpose and age groups of the spaces. Its launch descriptions are useful background, while staff and current notices are the best source for today’s activity arrangements.

Can children borrow the toys to take home?

No. The ministry’s published response on toy lending distinguishes free play at Punggol’s Toy Library from borrowing toys to take home. A library visit should therefore include time to play onsite.

Book borrowing is a separate service. If you also want to take books home, use your eligible NLB account and the normal book borrowing process. Choosing a toy does not create a toy loan or a collection reservation.

Before leaving, help your child return materials as directed. A simple warning that play is ending soon can make the transition to choosing a book or leaving the library easier.

How to plan a manageable first visit

Start with one activity and let the child explore it before moving on. An adult can describe what is happening, ask a simple question or join a pretend story without turning every moment into a lesson. This is a suggested family approach, rather than a prescribed library programme.

Keep an adult close throughout the visit, particularly during tinkering. Read the activity instructions, respect any age guidance and ask staff when unsure how to use a shared item. These are shared library spaces, so leave room for other children to participate.

Follow play with a short book connected to what interested the child: a vehicle story after vehicle play, for example, or a picture book about building after fitting pieces together. There is no need to cover every children’s feature in one outing.

Opening hours, holidays and finding the library

Check the official Punggol Library page for the current schedule. The library closes on public holidays and at 5pm on the eves of Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year.

Extended morning library access does not establish a separate Toy Library activity timetable. If your visit depends on a specific play activity or staff assistance, confirm that arrangement directly rather than assuming it starts at 9am.

For transport and an agreed family meeting point, see our One Punggol arrival guide. Once inside, follow the library signs and ask for the Level 1 children’s spaces.

Questions parents often ask

Is this a supervised drop-off play service? TinkerTots is described as play under parental supervision. Plan for an adult to stay with the child; do not treat the visit as childcare.

Must every visit include a workshop? You can plan around onsite play and reading. A separately advertised programme may have its own registration, age range or capacity, so read its listing before promising attendance.

Can older siblings join the same activity? Check the displayed guidance for the particular space. NLB’s opening information identifies other children’s features for older age groups, so a mixed-age family may need to choose activities separately.
