If you are trapped in a lift in Punggol, press the alarm button and use the emergency telephone number displayed inside the lift. BCA advises waiting for help and not trying to pry open the doors.
Give the responder the building or block, lift identifier if visible and the number of people inside. Explain if anyone needs urgent medical assistance. For a life-threatening or medical emergency, call 995; tell the operator that the person is inside a stopped lift.
A Punggol lift malfunction should be reported to the lift owner or managing agent, including the relevant Town Council for its lifts. A passenger trapped inside needs the emergency reporting route shown in the lift, even if someone has already posted about the fault in a residents’ chat.

Use the information inside the lift
Read the displayed emergency contact and any lift number you can see. If you do not know the precise floor, say so; report the last information you observed rather than guessing.
Keep the conversation clear. Tell the responder whether your group includes a child or someone requiring assistance, and follow the instructions given.

Stay inside and wait for help
BCA’s advice is to sound the alarm, contact the emergency number and wait. Do not force the doors open or attempt to climb out through a gap.
Reassure children with a simple explanation: the lift has stopped and you have asked the maintenance team for help. Avoid promising a rescue time that has not been confirmed.

If you are helping from outside
Report the malfunction to the owner or managing agent immediately. Explain that people are inside so the report is not mistaken for an empty lift being out of service.
If you can communicate with the passengers, let them know help has been contacted. Do not attempt to open landing doors or organise an improvised extraction.

Keep the family informed
One family member can update relatives or a school while another stays focused on the responder. Give the location and current situation without spreading an assumed cause.
After the incident, retain the report details if further follow-up is needed. For changes to school runs or mobility arrangements while a lift remains unavailable, see the separate Punggol lift-out-of-service planning guide.
