If you suspect a piped gas leak in your Punggol home, call City Energy’s 24-hour emergency hotline, 1800-752-1800, immediately from a safe distance. Report a suspected leak without waiting to prove the cause.
EMA’s gas-leak guidance says to shut the gas meter control valve, open windows and doors for ventilation, extinguish flames and avoid turning electrical switches or appliances on or off. Do not use a flame to look for a leak. Carry out actions only if you can do so safely.
For a Punggol HDB flat or condominium, give the full address and explain where you noticed the concern. Keep family members away from the affected area and follow the emergency responder’s instructions. If there is fire or an immediate life-threatening emergency, call 995.

Make the emergency call
Speak from a safe distance and provide the block, unit and postal code. Explain whether you noticed a smell, heard something unusual or saw another sign; distinguish your observation from a suspected cause.
Do not stay beside the appliance to make a more detailed report. If someone else is helping your family, agree on a safe meeting point and keep the caller available for instructions.

Avoid improvised leak testing
EMA expressly advises against using naked flames to detect gas leaks and against operating electrical switches during a leak. A household experiment can create an additional hazard.
Leave the technical assessment to the responding professionals. Do not disconnect a pipe, change a fitting or attempt to seal an apparent leak with household materials.

Residential gas installation work must be carried out by City Energy or a Licensed Gas Service Worker. Report any recent work that may be relevant when discussing the incident.
Wait for professional instructions about the installation and its use. A smell becoming less noticeable is not a substitute for assessment, and a neighbour’s reassurance does not establish that the appliance is ready to use.

Keep the contact easy to find
Save City Energy’s emergency number with the family’s important contacts. Keep access to the gas meter control valve clear, as EMA recommends.
When arranging renovation or appliance changes, discuss gas work explicitly with the contractor. Record who is handling it so the household knows whom to contact for planned work and whom to call in an incident.
