Did you know? A child can define good customer service and still struggle to recommend what a business should do in a particular situation. G1 Elements of Business Skills tuition can help connect the concept to the customer’s needs, the evidence supplied and a reasoned action.
Start with one school scenario. Ask your child which detail explains the customer’s difficulty and how their recommendation addresses it. If the reply is a definition alone, practise application. If the scenario is understood but the recommendation lacks support, work on the link between evidence and the proposed action.
Before arranging tuition, confirm that the school offers the subject and check the G1 level and examination year. Agree on a goal such as explaining a suitable response to a new customer situation. For the assessed Business Investigation, follow the school’s permitted-support rules and preserve the student’s own research, analysis and recommendations.

Why are general answers sometimes insufficient?
Imagine an original practice scenario in which a customer cannot tell which of two products meets a stated need. “Be friendly” may be relevant to the interaction, but it does not by itself resolve the information gap. A reasoned response would identify the need and provide accurate, suitable product information.
Ask the learner to explain how the proposed action helps this customer. Do not invent product features or promise an outcome the scenario does not support. The reasoning should remain anchored to the facts given, including any constraints.
How can a tutor teach application?
A tutor can compare two short practice answers: one that repeats a term and one that links an action to a scenario detail. The learner identifies the difference, then writes an answer for a changed situation. This makes the reasoning visible without providing a script to memorise.
Role-play can support communication practice, but fluent speaking alone does not establish a good recommendation. After the conversation, ask the child to explain their decision and the evidence behind it. Gradually reduce those prompts in fresh tasks.
What does the G1 syllabus include?
SEAB’s 2027 G1 Elements of Business Skills syllabus K129 applies marketing and customer-relations ideas in travel and tourism, hospitality and retail contexts. It includes gathering and interpreting information, analysing situations and making reasoned recommendations.
Use the applicable syllabus alongside the school’s teaching sequence. Business Investigation is not an invitation for a tutor to conduct the student’s research or supply the final analysis. Clarify the boundaries with the school and practise the underlying skills on separate examples.
What would independent progress look like?
Look for an answer that identifies the relevant issue, proposes an appropriate action and explains why it fits the information. Try a later unfamiliar scenario rather than only repeating the one used in tuition. A student who can revise a weak reason independently is also showing useful growth.
Parents can discuss an ordinary service interaction without turning it into a complaint or a test of an actual employee. Keep the focus on what information would help. Confirm a provider’s G1 EBS provision and, for a 3-pax group, ask how each student receives feedback on their reasoning.
