What this page represented in 2015

The original page was a broad-location tuition landing page aimed at Bukit Timah families. It advertised Primary and Secondary English, Mathematics and Science together with PSLE, GCE O-Level, Integrated Programme and IB-oriented support.

Its main reader job was straightforward: a parent searching for tuition in Bukit Timah could see that eduKate taught a wide range of school subjects.

The weakness was that the page treated a changing service footprint as if it were permanent. Eleven years later, preserving the URL without preserving that ambiguity is the safer and more useful solution.

The old programme footprint

The 2015 page listed:

  • Primary 1–6 English;
  • Primary 1–6 Mathematics;
  • Primary Science;
  • Creative Writing;
  • PSLE English, Mathematics and Science;
  • Secondary English;
  • Elementary Mathematics;
  • Additional Mathematics;
  • older references to GCE O-Level, IP, IB, SAP and DSA pathways.

That list is retained as evidence of what eduKate publicly offered or promoted in that period. It is not a current Bukit Timah timetable.

What the old page reveals about tuition marketing in 2015

The article relied on three familiar signals:

  • a prestigious location term;
  • a long list of examinations and programmes;
  • the former schools attended by tutors.

Those signals can help a parent find a provider, but they do not answer the most important educational question: what will the tutor actually do when the child does not understand?

A stronger teaching standard than prestige by association

The original copy highlighted tutor backgrounds from well-known junior colleges. Today, that information would be treated as context rather than proof of instructional quality.

For a student, teaching quality is more directly visible in whether the tutor can:

  • locate the actual weak concept or process;
  • explain it in more than one way;
  • differentiate a knowledge gap from an execution error;
  • choose practice at the right difficulty;
  • give feedback the student can act on;
  • help the learner transfer the idea to unfamiliar questions.

That framework is more useful than simply stating where a tutor studied.

Historical photographs from the original Bukit Timah page

The original page reused photographs from eduKate’s teaching and enrichment activities. They are preserved as historical material and should not be interpreted as photographs of a current Bukit Timah centre.

Why Bukit Timah needs especially careful cannibalisation control

Over the years, eduKatePunggol published multiple Bukit Timah English and Science pages. A broad 2015 page that tries to own every subject, every level and the whole location can compete with those later, more specific URLs.

The repair is not to delete this URL. It is to give it a narrower job: historical provenance of eduKate’s 2015 Bukit Timah-facing tuition footprint.

Later subject-specific pages can then own their own English, Science or school-specific reader jobs when they are upgraded in sequence.

What parents should ask instead of “Is this a top tutor?”

  1. What is my child actually weak at?
  2. How will the tutor diagnose that weakness?
  3. What will be taught differently from school?
  4. How small is the teaching group?
  5. How is feedback given?
  6. How will we know whether the intervention worked?

Those questions convert reputation into observable educational function.
