Punggol Library Early Literacy Zone | A Short Baby Book Visit at One Punggol

Main building of One Punggol community hub in Singapore.

For a short baby book visit at Punggol Regional Library, start at the Early Literacy Zone on Level 1. The library is inside One Punggol at 1 Punggol Drive, near Sam Kee LRT. Choose a book with pictures or a repeated line you can share for a few minutes, then decide whether to browse further.

Let the baby set the pace. Looking at one picture, hearing a repeated word or reaching for the book is enough for a first visit. You can borrow an eligible book for later if the baby is ready to leave.

  • Use the Level 1 library entrance and follow signs to the Early Literacy Zone.
  • Choose one book and try a few pages.
  • Let a sibling choose a picture or word to share.
  • Keep a clear stopping point if the baby needs a break.

Look for pictures you can name in a few words. A picture of a cat can become a brief exchange when you name it, pause and see where the baby looks next. If the book has a repeated phrase, say it when the picture appears again. A sibling can join by pointing to the next picture or repeating a word. There is room to skip pages or stop when the baby’s attention moves elsewhere.

Try a second book only if the group wants to continue. If your baby is tired, choose a book to borrow and share it later in a quieter setting. The useful part of the visit is learning what catches their attention.

At One Punggol, follow the directory to the library entrance and use the Level 1 signs. The photos show the community hub and its public areas. Ask library staff where to find the Early Literacy Zone if you are unsure. If another caregiver is meeting you, name the library entrance or another permanent landmark rather than just the floor.

Keep the rest of the outing optional

If a sibling wants to look for a separate book, agree how long to browse and where to meet. If you plan to add a meal, use the hub’s signs for the Level 2 hawker centre. Decide after the library stop whether the baby is ready for another activity.
