Before booking a 3D printer at MakeIT in Punggol Library, choose one small model and check NLB’s current requirements for the machine and session. NLB offers an introductory 3D Starter Session and a separate equipment booking route. The library is inside One Punggol at 1 Punggol Drive, beside Sam Kee LRT.
If you are bringing a school project, decide what the first print needs to prove. It could test whether two parts fit, whether a label is readable, or whether an object stands upright. A small test piece lets you learn something useful even if the full design needs another session.
- Check the current session or equipment requirements with NLB.
- Save an editable model and a separate file for the machine workflow.
- Bring the intended dimensions and one question to test.
- Give yourself a second plan if the model or booking needs more work.

Find the part you need

A full model can contain several features that need testing. Start with the one that matters most. If you are designing a holder, for example, make a small test of the opening before printing the entire holder. Write down the measured size of the object that goes into it and the size you intended to model. If the fit is wrong, you can then compare the measurement, design and result.
Draw a quick sketch and label the dimensions in millimetres if that is the unit you used. Check the unit again when exporting or opening the model. A shape can look correct on screen while being much larger or smaller than intended. The measurements give you a way to detect that mismatch before the machine starts.

Open NLB’s equipment booking page and read the current instructions for Punggol Library. Check what preparation is expected, which printer is available and how to bring or access your model. If you are new to the equipment, look for an available starter session and read its registration and participation conditions.
Keep your original editable design separate from any file you prepare for a printer workflow. Give the files clear names with a version number. If you make a last-minute change, save it as another version so you can return to the earlier model. Before travelling, open the copy you intend to use and check it is the right object.

Allow time to find MakeIT and complete any required checks. If several students are working together, have one person keep the design file and another keep the measurements or observation notes. Check the booking conditions before assuming everyone can operate equipment or stay in the room.
If your full print cannot be attempted during the session, use the time to check the design or prepare a smaller test. Record which feature you changed and why. That note is useful in a school project because it explains how the next model improved.

Is a starter workshop the same as booking a printer?
NLB lists starter sessions and self-service equipment bookings separately. Use the listing for the visit you want and check its current requirements.
Should I bring the entire project?
Bring the design and dimensions, then identify one small feature you could test first. Check the current booking and file instructions before going.
Where should I meet my group?
Choose a named public point at One Punggol, then follow the library directory to MakeIT.
