MakeIT at Punggol Library is a space to learn practical making skills, including technologies such as 3D printing and digital cutting. It is on Level 4 of the library at One Punggol. For a first visit, choose a suitable introductory workshop through NLB’s official MakeIT programme links.
NLB states that MakeIT workshops and materials are free for its members, with equipment and programmes recommended for ages 13 and above for safety. Some machines require the relevant MakeIT certification. Registering for a workshop and arranging later equipment use are separate steps.
MakeIT’s published hours are Wednesday to Sunday, noon–8.30pm, with closures on Mondays, Tuesdays, public holidays and the eves of Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year. These differ from the main library’s hours. Check the specific session’s location, age guidance and registration instructions before travelling.

Choose a starter session
Begin with NLB’s MakeIT at Libraries page. It links to beginner sessions and explains the different ways to participate. Select Punggol when checking a listing; the same initiative also operates at other libraries.
Choose one skill you want to try rather than booking several unfamiliar activities at once. Read what the session teaches, what participants should bring and whether there are prerequisites. A beginner workshop is a useful way to discover whether the process interests you before planning a larger project.
Keep the registration confirmation and check its date and start time. If a session is full, look for another suitable date instead of assuming you can join by turning up.
Equipment use is a separate arrangement
Ask the MakeIT team which equipment you may use after your chosen session and how to arrange the next visit. Completion of one activity should not be interpreted as permission to operate every machine.
Describe your intended project before reserving equipment. Useful questions include whether the design is suitable, what preparation is needed and how much time to allow. Follow the current material, file and safety instructions rather than relying on an older participant’s experience.
Start with a small object or test piece. A modest first project makes it easier to learn from errors in measurement, design or preparation without depending on an ambitious result.
Planning for a teenager
Discuss what the teenager hopes to make and what they want to understand about it. An attractive finished object can be exciting, but learning includes preparing a design, following instructions and explaining a revision.
For a younger child, ask about the specific programme’s suitability before registering. A general family visit to the library does not automatically make an equipment session appropriate for every age.
Agree transport and collection arrangements. If the teenager attends independently, make sure they can identify the session location and reach a parent if the plan changes.
Turn a workshop into learning
Afterwards, record the idea, the first attempt, one difficulty and the change made. A short account helps the learner remember the process and choose a next step.
An illustrative design exercise is to compare two versions of a simple label or holder. Explain which dimensions changed and why. This is a suggested reflection activity, not a description of an NLB workshop assignment.
Allow time for improvement. Practical making can involve checking, testing and trying again; a first attempt need not become a polished portfolio item.
Getting to One Punggol
Use our One Punggol transport and parking guide and NLB’s current library information. Reach the building with enough time to locate Level 4 and the registered session.
For other library activities, see the Punggol Regional Library guide. Keep each activity’s registration separate. A MakeIT place does not reserve a study seat or register you for another programme.
