What happens in Full Subject Based Banding | FullSBB Life with MOE School Holidays 2027, Term Dates and the Secondary Timetable

An open textbook and notebook sit beside a stack of schoolbooks, pens and a calculator on a desk by the window.

Singapore’s MOE school year for secondary schools in 2027 begins on Monday, 4 January 2027 and ordinarily ends on Friday, 19 November 2027. Term 1 runs from 4 January to 12 March, Term 2 from 22 March to 28 May, Term 3 from 28 June to 3 September, and Term 4 from 13 September to 19 November. The main breaks are 13–21 March, 29 May–27 June, 4–12 September and 20 November–31 December. For schools used as 2027 SEC written-examination venues, the final term ends earlier on Friday, 29 October 2027.

For Punggol families following Full Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB), these national term dates are only the outer frame. Your teenager’s actual academic subjects, form-class timetable, HBL dates, school camps, CCA practices, weighted assessments, parent–teacher meetings and dismissal times come from the school. A student in G3 Mathematics and G2 English does not have a different national holiday calendar from a friend taking another subject combination. Instead, their academic work and subject-class timetable may be different.

  • Term 1: Monday 4 January–Friday 12 March 2027.
  • March holiday: Saturday 13–Sunday 21 March 2027.
  • Term 2: Monday 22 March–Friday 28 May 2027.

  • Term 4: Monday 13 September–Friday 19 November 2027; 29 October for schools used as SEC written-exam venues.
  • Year-end holiday: Saturday 20 November–Friday 31 December 2027, under the general secondary-school calendar.
  • School holidays include Monday 5 July (Youth Day holiday), Tuesday 10 August (day after National Day) and Friday 3 September (Teachers’ Day).
  • Children’s Day on Friday 8 October is a school holiday for primary schools and primary sections of full schools, not an automatic holiday for standalone secondary schools.
  • Public holidays and school-designated days off in lieu also affect attendance; check the official annual calendar.

Start here: The 2027 national terms are fixed by MOE; verify every orientation, camp, lesson, assessment, CCA and HBL date with the receiving school.

1. How to read 2027’s four-term calendar

MOE’s national calendar lists four school terms separated by three mid-year breaks and a longer year-end break. It is the best starting point for parents making travel plans or arranging childcare for younger siblings. However, a secondary student’s calendar also includes school-set activities that do not appear in the national term table.

Class tests, CCAs, camps, student leadership events and school-specific holidays can affect the actual week. Avoid treating a national vacation period as proof that every morning, afternoon or evening will be free of commitments.

Parent action: Save the MOE calendar and the allocated school’s 2027 calendar as two separate sources, then combine confirmed entries.

2. Why Full SBB does not create separate holiday dates

Under Full SBB, Posting Groups organise Secondary 1 admission and G1/G2/G3 describe individual subject levels. Neither changes the national holiday calendar. A mixed form class may have students with different academic subject combinations who still attend shared events, common curriculum and school activities.

Parents sometimes assume a G3 academic class must have longer term dates or a G1 class must finish earlier. These are not general Full SBB rules. Actual school-set subject lessons and examination arrangements are the relevant differences.

Parent action: Separate national term dates from classroom and subject-level schedules before planning.

3. The first day: 4 January 2027

The national 2027 secondary-school calendar starts on Monday, 4 January. That is the planning date for new Secondary 1 pupils, but the exact reporting time, entrance gate, uniform, orientation programme and room remain school-specific.

A Punggol student should know where to report, what to carry, how to contact the form teacher and which route to take. A parent should rely on the school’s incoming-cohort letter, not a timetable forwarded from 2026.

Parent action: Ask the school for the actual 2027 reporting instructions and test the morning journey before the first day.

4. Term 1: 4 January to 12 March

Term 1 includes the beginning of academic study, orientation, timetable settling and the first development of school friendships. For some pupils it may include early CCA selection, school programmes or assessments. None of those events has a universally fixed date across every Punggol secondary school.

A good first-term family plan gives the child time to navigate mixed form classes and subject groups before adding too many outside commitments. Notice the child’s energy and understanding, not just their marks.

Parent action: Confirm orientation, CCA trials, HBL dates and assessment notices directly with the receiving school.

5. Chinese New Year and February school closures

The 2027 public-holiday calendar gives Chinese New Year on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February, with Monday 8 February a public holiday. MOE’s school calendar identifies Tuesday 9 February as a designated school day off in lieu.

Some families may plan travel across this period. Do not assume an additional school-specific closure before or after these dates unless the actual school has announced it. Activities may also be planned around the long weekend.

Parent action: Check the current school announcements before making non-refundable holiday bookings.

6. Hari Raya Puasa within Term 1

The 2027 public holiday for Hari Raya Puasa is listed on Wednesday 10 March in the published 2027 calendar. It falls close to the end of Term 1. Calendar arrangements for religious holidays should be checked against the latest official notices if dates are updated.

The date may affect school assessment planning, transport and family gatherings. Parents should distinguish a gazetted holiday from discretionary pupil absence and follow school attendance rules on all other days.

Parent action: Mark the official public holiday and check whether any school event has been rescheduled.

7. March vacation: 13 to 21 March

The first school vacation runs from Saturday 13 March to Sunday 21 March 2027. It is a nine-day calendar window between Terms 1 and 2. Pupils may use it for rest, family time, reasonable revision or recognised school commitments.

The existence of a vacation does not mean all CCAs or holiday activities stop. A school might schedule training or special programmes and is responsible for communicating details. Parents should avoid filling the whole period with tuition simply because it is available.

Parent action: Ask your child which activities are compulsory, optional and genuinely restorative before planning.

8. Term 2: 22 March to 28 May

Term 2 begins Monday 22 March and ends Friday 28 May. A student is generally more familiar with subject classes and school routines by this period, although differences in subject-level demand may become clearer through assessments and homework.

The dates should guide a family calendar, not be used to invent exact weighted-assessment deadlines. Schools set those within current policy. A child experiencing a difficult subject can benefit from targeted, evidence-based help rather than studying every day without a plan.

Parent action: Review the child’s confirmed assessment calendar and one learning gap in the early weeks of the term.

9. Good Friday and May public holidays

Good Friday falls on Friday 26 March 2027, while Labour Day is Saturday 1 May, Hari Raya Haji Monday 17 May and Vesak Day Thursday 20 May. MOE identifies Monday 3 May as a school-designated day off in lieu of Labour Day.

These dates can affect travel, class schedules and family arrangements. Check school-specific events around public holidays; schools may move some learning activities to different days. Avoid assuming every absence adjacent to a holiday is automatically approved.

Parent action: List all official closures before booking CCA transport or holiday childcare.

10. June vacation: 29 May to 27 June

The mid-year vacation begins Saturday 29 May and ends Sunday 27 June 2027. For many families this is the largest mid-year opportunity to balance rest, travel, hobbies and selected learning commitments.

A student taking several G levels may have different academic needs in each subject. The vacation should not be treated as a month-long examination camp by default. Identify two or three useful learning targets and preserve enough time for sleep, friendships and movement.

Parent action: Ask for the school’s holiday CCA calendar before fixing the family travel itinerary.

11. Term 3: 28 June to 3 September

Term 3 runs from Monday 28 June to Friday 3 September. Secondary students may encounter classroom projects, CCAs, school events and preparation for later assessment, but these are determined by their actual school and cohort.

By this stage, the student may have stronger evidence about the suitability of individual academic subject levels. Parents should not confuse a term calendar with the timetable for formal G-level reviews. Teachers provide those school-specific processes.

Parent action: Arrange a mid-year subject and wellbeing review using actual feedback, not assumptions about national promotion dates.

12. Youth Day and National Day around Term 3

Youth Day is Sunday 4 July in 2027, and Monday 5 July is the school holiday. National Day falls Monday 9 August and the following Tuesday 10 August is the scheduled school holiday after National Day.

School National Day commemorations and activities can happen on different days. Parents should consult the school’s official event instructions for uniform, reporting, participation and dismissal. A public holiday is not necessarily the date of the school celebration.

Parent action: Check Parents Gateway or the school’s official communication for any special schedule.

13. Teachers’ Day and the September break

Teachers’ Day is Friday 3 September 2027, coinciding with the published last date of Term 3. The September vacation then runs from Saturday 4 September to Sunday 12 September.

Schools may celebrate Teachers’ Day according to their annual programme, so do not assume the same event timing for every campus. A child may wish to prepare a message or show appreciation, but this need not become a costly gift competition.

Parent action: Check the school’s guidance and focus on thoughtful, appropriate appreciation.

14. Term 4: 13 September to 19 November

Term 4 ordinarily runs from Monday 13 September to Friday 19 November 2027. It can include end-of-year assessment, post-exam activities and preparation for the next school year, depending on level and school.

Families should remember the exception for SEC written-examination venues: the published final school term at such schools ends on 29 October. That does not mean all secondary pupils nationwide finish school on that earlier date.

Parent action: Check whether the allocated school is an SEC venue and follow its final-term letter.

15. The SEC venue exception: 29 October

MOE’s 2027 calendar states that schools serving as venues for Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate written examinations end the final term on Friday 29 October. Other primary and secondary schools follow the general 19 November term end.

The exception reflects national examination logistics. It must not be interpreted as an automatic holiday for students attending any nearby school, nor as a personal SEC-examination date for all students.

Parent action: Confirm the particular campus’s status before making travel arrangements for the end of October.

16. Deepavali in Term 4

The published 2027 public-holiday calendar lists Deepavali on Thursday 28 October, close to the early term-end date for SEC examination venues. A household should check the exact school and assessment schedule around that week.

Students with legitimate religious celebrations should be supported in understanding school expectations and official closures. Public holidays and school examination arrangements should be read from the right year and institution.

Parent action: Mark the public holiday and avoid guessing examination-paper dates from a national term table.

17. Children’s Day is not a secondary-school holiday

Friday 8 October 2027 is the scheduled Children’s Day school holiday for primary schools and primary sections of full schools. It is not automatically a holiday for pupils at standalone mainstream secondary schools.

Many Punggol families have both primary and secondary children. Treating 8 October as a universal day off could leave an older student absent or a younger child without planned supervision.

Parent action: Build a separate calendar for each school-going child instead of assuming they share every closure.

18. Year-end vacation: 20 November to 31 December

For the general secondary calendar, the year-end vacation runs from Saturday 20 November through Friday 31 December 2027. The new academic year follows the applicable next-year MOE calendar, which should be checked separately when released.

Parents can use this period to reflect on a student’s learning, prepare for subject choices and allow meaningful time away from school demands. It is not necessary to predict every future examination paper or booklist during the first vacation week.

Parent action: Use one short family review to identify next year’s real questions, then preserve room for rest.

19. Christmas day off in lieu

Christmas Day falls on Saturday 25 December 2027, and MOE identifies Monday 27 December as a school-designated day off in lieu. For mainstream secondary pupils, this already falls during the usual year-end vacation.

The day may still affect school office operations or planned activities. Parents should consult current school notices about collections, administrative deadlines or office closures rather than assuming all services remain open.

Parent action: Check the school office’s holiday arrangements before visiting the campus.

20. When do weighted assessments occur?

MOE has removed mid-year examinations at secondary level, but schools may conduct weighted assessments and relevant end-of-year examinations. The dates and weighting of individual subject tasks are determined by the school.

A student studying G3 Science may have a different assessment from a classmate in G2 Science. The family should read the current assessment plan and avoid importing an old relative’s examination timetable.

Parent action: Record each subject, G level, assessment type and school-confirmed deadline.

21. How the calendar connects with HBL

Schools may schedule home-based learning or blended-learning days during the school year. Those days are not the same as vacations. Students may still need to check in, complete assignments and use the Student Learning Space under school instructions.

HBL frequency, platform and reporting procedures are school-specific. A parent who sees another secondary school’s fortnightly HBL rule should not transfer it to the child’s actual school.

Parent action: Add HBL dates from the official school calendar as learning days, not holidays.

22. How the calendar connects with CCA

CCA sessions may take place after lessons, on selected Saturdays or during vacations according to the school’s activity plan. A National Day school holiday or June break does not by itself cancel previously announced holiday training.

A parent should know which sessions are compulsory, how absence is handled and whether late transport is needed. Reasonable participation also depends on the child’s sleep, workload and interests.

Parent action: Ask for the CCA calendar before finalising family travel, not after tickets are purchased.

23. When schools schedule cohort camps

Outdoor adventure learning and Secondary 1 orientation activities may be scheduled in different terms. Some schools hold orientation programmes in January while residential outdoor education camps occur later. There is no universal Punggol date or campsite for everyone.

The MOE outdoor education framework and specific school programmes are connected but not identical. A 2026 example at one school cannot establish a 2027 camp date at another. Parents should read consent, packing and medical forms from the allocated school.

Parent action: Add camp dates only after the school sends official instructions.

24. Parent–teacher meetings are school-specific

Parent engagement sessions and parent–teacher conferences may take place in different months or online formats depending on the school. Families should not assume all Singapore secondary schools meet parents on the same national date.

Parents Gateway is often used for the invitation or booking. Some meetings focus on adjustment, others on academic performance, wellbeing or subject choices. A Punggol parent may need to plan travel or time away from work.

Parent action: Check the meeting invitation and bring three clear questions about the child’s current situation.

25. When Secondary 3 subject choices are made

Schools advise pupils about upper-secondary combinations based on current offerings, interests, prerequisites and learning readiness. These decisions usually follow a school-based process rather than a single nationwide date printed in the holidays calendar.

Parents should read the school’s actual subject information and confirm which G-level subjects are available. A past calendar may help anticipate the season, but it is not a binding decision window.

Parent action: Start the conversation early enough for evidence-based planning while respecting school deadlines.

26. A Punggol family’s weekly travel calendar

A household can use national term dates to plan broad routines, but school reporting and CCA dismissal must be measured using the actual travel route. A pupil living near one LRT station may have a very different experience from a student travelling across town.

The real week includes classroom time, transfers, meals, homework and rest. Parents should not fill every apparent free afternoon with external tuition simply because the national calendar contains no listed activity.

Parent action: Map one ordinary school week with the child and look for unnecessary fatigue.

27. How to plan school holidays without panic

A useful holiday can combine rest, reading, a hobby, family time and focused academic practice. The balance depends on the learner’s needs and the school’s legitimate assignments. A student should not be given months of work solely because they have different G levels across subjects.

Some children need to consolidate concepts; others are already learning securely and benefit from exploring interests. Parents can ask the teenager to suggest meaningful goals instead of imposing a fully scheduled programme.

Parent action: Choose two or three concrete learning aims and leave deliberately unscheduled time.

28. A year planner for multiple children

A Punggol family may have children in a primary school, a secondary school and a post-secondary institution. Their holidays and school events will not always align, especially Children’s Day and the calendar exception for SEC venues.

Build one family view with distinct colours or labels for each pupil. Use verified official notices rather than forwarded screenshots of a different school’s timetable. Include transport, medical appointments and caregiving when relevant.

Parent action: Write each child’s school and academic year beside every event to avoid cross-school confusion.

29. What if school sends a corrected calendar?

School programmes sometimes change due to national examinations, weather, venue availability or other operational needs. An updated school notice should replace an older screenshot for affected school-specific details. The national MOE calendar remains the reference for the general school terms.

Parents can reduce confusion by recording when an event was last verified and who issued it. Avoid treating an informal class chat as more authoritative than an official school announcement.

Parent action: Keep one ‘confirmed’ calendar and update it when the school publishes a corrected notice.

30. A fictional Secondary 1 family’s January

Imagine fictional pupil Alicia entering a Punggol secondary school in January 2027. Her parent has correctly saved the 4 January national start date but assumes the entire school timetable is identical to a cousin’s 2026 schedule.

The actual orientation email identifies a different report point, parent briefing and CCA introduction. The family updates its own calendar and practises the commuting route. Alicia feels more secure because the adults separated national facts from the specific school programme.

Parent action: Use this example as a reminder to check instructions that name the child’s own school and intake.

31. A fictional October planning mistake

Imagine fictional parent Ben arranging an overseas holiday to begin on 30 October 2027 because he read that SEC-venue schools close on 29 October. His daughter attends a different school that follows the ordinary 19 November end date.

Before booking, the family verifies the school’s actual annual calendar and changes the plan. The mistake had nothing to do with the student’s G2 or G3 subject levels; it came from treating a conditional national exception as a universal rule.

Parent action: Check the SEC-venue exception against the actual school before purchasing travel.

32. A four-week calendar setup plan

Week one: enter the MOE 2027 terms and public holidays. Week two: add the allocated school’s reporting, orientation, HBL and confirmed CCA dates. Week three: enter assessment and parent engagement notices with the correct subject levels. Week four: test the real weekly travel and review sleep, meal and family commitments.

If an official deadline falls sooner, act immediately; the four-week outline is an organisational suggestion, not permission to delay registration or consent forms. Keep the plan simple enough that the teenager can maintain it.

Parent action: Finish with one shared calendar, clear source dates and no invented school-specific events.

2027 calendar checklist

  • Save MOE’s published term dates and public holidays
  • Confirm the correct school and the 29 October SEC-venue exception, if applicable
  • Add Secondary 1 orientation and reporting instructions
  • Enter school-specific HBL and subject-level class schedules
  • Record exam and WA dates from actual school notices
  • Add CCA and school camp obligations
  • Note Parents Gateway meeting invitations and consent deadlines
  • Protect meals, sleep and travel time during term weeks
  • Check Children’s Day separately for primary versus secondary pupils
  • Update the family calendar when a school publishes a revised notice
