Planning a wheelchair bus journey from Punggol? Check both the boarding and alighting stops, not only the bus service. LTA says public buses are wheelchair accessible, but a small number of stops still have accessibility constraints; the stop’s wheelchair logo or MyTransport information can help you check.
At the Punggol stop or interchange, position yourself where the Bus Captain can see you and communicate your intended destination. SBS Transit says its Bus Captains are trained to deploy the ramp and assist wheelchair boarding and alighting.
Available space and the wheelchair’s dimensions also matter. Follow the operator’s instructions for positioning and securing the wheelchair in its designated bay. Do not assume you must transfer to an ordinary seat or that a companion should operate the bus ramp.

Check the entire journey
Review the route to the boarding stop, the destination stop and any interchange. A short bus ride can still involve an unsuitable access path at one end.
If the accessibility information is unclear, contact the relevant operator before a time-sensitive trip. Avoid depending on an unverified stop for a medical appointment or other fixed commitment.
Explain the assistance you need
Tell the Bus Captain where you intend to alight. Let staff guide the boarding process and allow other passengers to clear the relevant area.
A companion should ask the wheelchair user before providing physical help. Do not push or reposition a wheelchair without agreement.
Use the designated bay as instructed
SBS Transit’s guidance describes rear-facing positioning against the backrest, with wheels locked. Follow the instructions for the particular vehicle and wheelchair arrangement.
Keep bags from blocking access or interfering with the chair’s controls. If the bay is unavailable, speak to the Bus Captain about the next safe option.
Allow time for alighting
Signal your stop and assistance needs in good time using the available arrangements. Follow the Bus Captain’s ramp instructions.
After alighting, check the onward path before continuing. If an unexpected obstacle affects access, seek the operator’s or premises manager’s assistance rather than improvising a hazardous detour.
