Can you take a pet from Punggol onto a public bus or train just because it is in a carrier? Do not assume so. LTA’s public-bus conditions prohibit animals unless expressly permitted by law, and ordinary pets should not be treated as having a general carrier-based exemption.
MOT’s 4 August 2026 reply discussed public engagement on whether and under what conditions pets should be allowed on public transport. That announcement describes a possible policy direction, not permission to bring your pet on a Punggol bus or train today.
Guide dogs are different from ordinary pets. SBS Transit explicitly welcomes guide dogs accompanying blind or visually impaired people on its buses under its control and harness conditions. For an ordinary pet journey, check the relevant operator’s current rules or arrange a service that explicitly accepts your animal.

Do not mistake a proposal for a rule
Read the official announcement’s wording and date. Public consultation, a parliamentary question and an implemented service have different meanings.
A social-media headline about “pets on public transport” may omit that distinction. Verify current permission with the operator before leaving home.
Check ordinary-pet transport arrangements
MOT’s reply points pet owners to pet-friendly ride-hailing options in the meantime. Check the chosen service’s current animal, carrier, size and cleaning conditions directly.
Do not book an ordinary ride and assume the driver will accept a pet at pickup. Make the animal and any carrier requirements clear through the authorised booking process.
Keep guide-dog access distinct
A guide dog supporting a visually impaired traveller is not simply a pet travelling for convenience. Follow the relevant operator’s assistance guidance.
Do not distract a working guide dog or ask its handler to justify the journey to other passengers. If staff assistance is needed, approach the operator respectfully.
Plan the destination and return trip
Confirm that the appointment, shop or other destination accepts your pet, and arrange the return journey as well as the outbound ride.
Keep enough time for pickup and a suitable waiting place. A permitted transport booking does not establish that every place at the destination allows animals.
