Is preschool enrichment compulsory in Punggol? ECDA says participation in enrichment programmes is optional. Centres may charge extra when parents choose these supplementary programmes.
ECDA also says a preschool’s core programme must support holistic development, so not joining optional programmes should not affect your child’s main learning goals.
Before signing up, ask what the programme adds, how much it costs and what happens during that time for children who do not join. Choose with a clear understanding of the core programme and your family’s needs.

CHAPTER 1 OF 4
Confirm which programme is optional
The ECDA enrichment guidance distinguishes supplementary programmes and their possible additional charges.
Ask the centre to identify the optional activity and explain how enrolment works. Do not infer that every activity named in a brochure is a separate paid add-on.
CHAPTER 2 OF 4
Understand the core learning
ECDA’s answer on non-participation explains that the main learning goals should still be supported.
Ask how the core programme develops those goals and what the supplementary activity offers beyond it. This helps you judge the proposed experience on its actual purpose.
CHAPTER 3 OF 4
Check the full cost and terms
Request the price, frequency, duration and any cancellation arrangements before agreeing. Ask whether payment is recurring or for a defined set of sessions.
Our extra preschool charges guide helps you organise the fee questions.
CHAPTER 4 OF 4
Record your decision clearly
Tell the centre whether your child will participate and ask how that choice should be recorded. Confirm the arrangements for the relevant period.
Keep the explanation and terms together. You can revisit the decision when your child’s interests, timetable or family circumstances change.
