Preschool costs in Punggol may include more than the programme fee. ECDA says centres may request additional payments for items or services directly related to a child’s education and care.
These requests should be transparent and communicated clearly to parents in advance. Ask for a written breakdown before deciding what your family needs to budget.
ECDA’s examples include uniforms, insurance, transport, excursions, enrichment and other items. Charges vary, so ask what applies to your child’s particular centre and programme rather than treating another family’s bill as your fee schedule.
CHAPTER 1 OF 4
Request the complete breakdown
The ECDA guidance on additional preschool costs explains the advance-communication principle and lists charge categories.
Ask the centre to distinguish programme fees from separate charges, including when each is payable. Keep the written information with your enrolment documents.
CHAPTER 2 OF 4
Ask about activities and materials
ECDA’s examples also include concerts, photographs and videos, online communication systems and e-learning materials. Kindergarten examples include meals and learning materials.
For each item the centre quotes, ask what is included, whether it is required or optional, and whether it is a one-off or recurring payment. Do not assume the same answer applies to every charge.
CHAPTER 3 OF 4
Check infant care supplies
Infant care examples include diapers, milk powder, bottles and bedding. ECDA notes that many centres ask parents to provide their own diapers or milk powder because infants have differing needs.
Confirm what you should bring and what the centre supplies. A clear packing list helps avoid buying items without knowing whether they are needed.
CHAPTER 4 OF 4
Compare the total plan
Keep regular fees, one-off payments and occasional activities separate in your family budget. Check how quoted charges relate to any approved assistance instead of assuming they are all covered.
If an invoice contains an unfamiliar entry, ask what it represents and where it was communicated. Save the clarification for your next billing check.
