Set Up ScamShield in Punggol: iPhone and Android Call and SMS Protection

Three students in school uniforms work through open books at a classroom table, with textbooks and stationery nearby and study notes on the whiteboard behind them.

For Punggol residents setting up ScamShield, installing the app is only the beginning. Open it and use the setup controls to enable the permissions for scam-call blocking and SMS filtering or detection.

On iPhone, follow the app’s permission instructions and confirm completion. Detected scam SMSes appear in Junk Messages with a ScamShield label. On Android, follow the permission prompts; detected scam SMSes trigger a ScamShield notification rather than the same iPhone folder behaviour.

Check the app’s active status after setup. ScamShield blocks numbers marked as scams by authorities, but no app should be treated as a guarantee that every incoming contact is trustworthy. Continue checking unusual requests independently.

Use the setup flow on your own phone

The current official guide starts with the app’s setup option, followed by permission instructions. Complete the call and SMS parts instead of stopping after the first permission screen.

If helping someone at home in Punggol, ask them to hold their phone and read each permission with you. Do not make unrelated changes to their notifications or contact list while troubleshooting.

Use the active indicators in the app to check setup. For an iPhone, look in Junk Messages when reviewing filtered SMSes; for Android, pay attention to the detection notification.

Avoid comparing two household phones solely by where messages appear. The systems present detected SMSes differently, so a missing iPhone-style folder on Android is not by itself evidence of failed setup.

Understand the contact limitation

ScamShield’s official guidance says it does not filter calls and SMSes from contacts saved on your phone. That is a reason not to treat a saved name as independent proof that a request is genuine.

For a surprising request from a familiar contact, check through another trusted channel. Avoid adding an unfamiliar number to your contacts simply because a caller claims to be an official or a service provider.

Review setup after a phone change

When changing phones, revisit the app’s setup and permission status rather than assuming the previous device’s configuration has carried over. This is a useful household check alongside reviewing other essential apps.

If a suspicious message reaches you despite protection, use the separate ScamShield message-reporting guide. Do not switch off protection merely to test a suspicious sender’s next message.
