Licensed Electrical Worker in Punggol: Verify an EMA Licence Before Work

Three students in school uniforms work through open books at a classroom table, with textbooks and stationery nearby and study notes on the whiteboard behind them.

Need an electrician in Punggol for wiring, power points or circuit-breaker work? Check the responsible Licensed Electrical Worker, or LEW, through EMA’s ELISE service. A company name, business registration or positive review is not a substitute for verifying the worker’s electrical licence.

EMA says electrical work must be carried out or supervised by an appropriately licensed electrical worker. Its examples include changing electrical wiring, adding or replacing sockets and lighting points, and repairing or replacing consumer control units or circuit breakers.

For a Punggol home appointment, ask for the LEW’s name and licence number before the visit, confirm who will carry out or supervise the work, and request an itemised quotation. This is a hiring and verification guide, not instructions for opening electrical equipment or attempting repairs.

Use EMA’s licence search

Open ELISE through EMA’s official consumer guidance below and choose the electrical-worker search. Cross-check the proposed worker’s details using the current search form.

EMA advises checking the worker’s licence card before work begins. Match the person and licence details; do not publish their identity-card information in a public review or neighbourhood chat.

Make the scope specific

Describe what you need in ordinary language: a new socket location, a failed lighting point or a proposed replacement of a distribution-board component. Let the licensed worker determine the technical scope and suitable licence class.

EMA issues different classes of electrical-worker licence. Its guidance says an electrician typically handles HDB-flat wiring; larger installations may require a different class. Do not choose the class yourself from an advertisement.

Separate quotation from diagnosis

Before attendance, ask about the call-out or inspection charge and whether it is deducted from an accepted repair quotation. Clarify who supplies fittings, what testing is included and what is excluded.

For renovation work, ask the main contractor to name the responsible LEW instead of treating “electrical works included” as sufficient detail. A licence check and a housing or renovation approval are different checks.

Document the finished job

Retain the quotation, invoice, relevant test records supplied and any written warranty. Ask for a plain-language explanation of the completed work and any outstanding recommendation.

If the attending person or scope differs from the booking, resolve the change before proceeding. Do not touch exposed wiring, open a panel or repeatedly experiment with a faulty installation to help the contractor diagnose it.
