Are Punggol preschools required to shower children every day? ECDA says bathing or showering is not a required part of the daily preschool routine.
Preschools should nevertheless provide the care needed to keep children clean throughout the day. ECDA gives wipe-downs, changes of clothes and needs-based showering as examples.
Ask your centre how cleanliness is managed for your child and what spare items to bring. A daily shower and appropriate care during the day are different questions.
CHAPTER 1 OF 4
Understand the official distinction
The ECDA answer on showering does not make a routine daily bath compulsory.
When asking about hygiene, describe the situation you want addressed. This helps the centre explain the relevant care rather than simply answering whether a shower is on the timetable.
CHAPTER 2 OF 4
Ask about changing and spare clothes
Find out what happens when clothing needs changing and which items parents should supply. Ask how used clothes are returned.
Keep the agreed packing list somewhere the family can use it. Replace spare clothing when your child grows or when the centre asks for a different item.
CHAPTER 3 OF 4
Discuss individual needs
If your child has a condition or care need that affects cleanliness arrangements, explain it to the preschool and ask what information it requires.
Confirm the agreed approach and whom to contact about changes. Avoid assuming that another child’s routine establishes the arrangement for yours.
CHAPTER 4 OF 4
Raise a specific concern
If your child repeatedly comes home needing attention to cleanliness, record the circumstances and speak to the centre. Ask what care was given and what can be clarified.
For help presenting a concern, see our preschool feedback guide.
