Bus service 117 began on 20 December 2015, linking Punggol Bus Interchange with Sembawang through Seletar Aerospace Park and Yishun. It gave Punggol a northern cross-town connection under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme.
The history of Punggol bus 117 includes changes beyond its original launch. The route was amended to serve West Camp Road in April 2016, changed within Punggol in July 2022 and extended to Punggol Coast Interchange in June 2025.
These dates help explain why older bus 117 maps look different from later ones. The service number continued, but its streets and Punggol terminus evolved. For a historical timeline, distinguish the 2015 introduction from the 2025 extension.

The SBS Transit launch announcement identified expanding Punggol West, Yishun South and Canberra as areas to benefit. It also highlighted a direct connection to Seletar Aerospace Park.
A cross-town service has a different historical role from a local loop: its endpoints show where residents could travel beyond their own town. That makes the Seletar and northern-town connection a useful milestone in Punggol’s transport story.
Land Transport Guru’s route chronology dates the West Camp Road amendment to 24 April 2016. It records new Canberra MRT stops on 2 November 2019 and a later Canberra-area rerouting in November 2021.
Within Punggol, the 31 July 2022 change took 117 along Punggol Field, bypassing Punggol Central and part of Punggol Way. On 29 June 2025, it extended to Punggol Coast Integrated Transport Hub via Punggol Place, Sentul Crescent and Sentul Walk.

The SBS Transit extension poster confirms the June 2025 date for both 117 and 117M. It shows the additional Punggol stops and the new endpoint.
Our interpretation is that this history captures two kinds of growth: connections out of Punggol and access within an expanding Punggol. Explore the interchange and LRT milestones in the Punggol history directory. Historical maps are records of their period, not current journey instructions.
