SIT Punggol Campus welcomed its first batch of students in September 2024, completed its phased university move in May 2025, and held its official opening on 16 September 2025. These dates refer to different milestones in the Singapore Institute of Technology’s move to Punggol.
SIT’s official history records the first phase for the Business, Communication and Design and Infocomm Technology clusters, followed by the remaining Engineering, Food, Chemical and Biotechnology, and Health and Social Sciences clusters. The move happened in stages.
For students, parents and Punggol residents, the practical answer is that the campus is already operating. An old “upcoming campus” article describes an earlier stage. For a visit today, check the current destination, building and access arrangements rather than using the historical opening date as a travel guide.

September 2024: the first students arrived
The first phase brought 3,800 SITizens from two academic clusters to the new campus for Academic Year 2024. This explains why campus reports and photographs appeared well before the formal 2025 opening.
When reading an older article, distinguish a forecast from a record of an event that happened. A useful note for a school project includes the milestone, the month and year, and the official source supporting it.
May 2025: the phased move was completed
SIT’s history records 6,000 SITizens from the other three clusters joining Punggol in May 2025, completing the university’s phased move.
This is the relevant milestone when a question concerns the completion of the relocation. It answers a different question from “When did the first students start?” Keep both dates if you are explaining the campus development to someone unfamiliar with the move.
16 September 2025: the official opening
SIT’s official opening announcement dates the ceremony to 16 September 2025. It describes the campus within Punggol Digital District as a place for applied learning, research and collaboration with industry.
A formal opening recognises the completed development and its role. It does not imply that teaching only started on the ceremony date. Use “official opening” when referring specifically to the September 2025 event.
How does this relate to Punggol Digital District?
The university campus forms part of the wider Punggol Digital District. A campus teaching date does not establish the opening date of every shop, office, public space or future project elsewhere in the district.
If your question concerns another destination, look up that destination by name. Our PDD, Punggol Coast Mall and SIT comparison helps identify which place you mean before choosing a route.
Use current information for a campus visit
SIT’s current campus page identifies public areas from Campus Boulevard, Level 2, and below. Access to a public area should not be taken as access to every teaching room, laboratory or student facility.
For a meeting or event, obtain the building code, room and reporting instructions from your host. Use our Campus Heart and Campus Court guide to understand the two campus areas, then check the current route before leaving home.
