If you find a bee or wasp nest in a Punggol park, keep your distance and back away. Do not approach, provoke or touch it. The current AVS advisory directs park-hive reports to NParks’ Helpline at 1800-471-7300.
Do not try to remove a nest yourself or gather around it for photographs. Give the helpline a precise park location so the report concerns the actual nest, not just a general area where insects were seen.
If someone develops an allergic reaction after a sting, or has been stung multiple times, seek medical attention immediately. The official advisory below explains sting care and what to do during a swarm; this article focuses on recognising and reporting the park situation.

A nest and a passing insect are different
Bees and wasps have important roles as pollinators, and wasps also prey on other insects. Seeing an insect at a flower is not the same situation as discovering a nest near a route.
Describe what you saw without claiming a species you cannot identify. A nest’s location and nearby landmark can be more useful for the report than an uncertain name.

Keep the family away from the nest
Follow the park-hive advice and avoid disturbing it. Choose your next activity after moving away, rather than making the nest an attraction for the group.
For a child, a brief explanation is enough: we can notice insects without touching their home. There is no need to finish a planned photograph or observation exercise.

Use the park helpline listed above for a hive in a park. Note the nearest path sign, facility or named feature and explain whether the nest is near a place people use.
A location note can say which side of a path or structure you observed from. Do not move closer to improve the description.

AVS advises covering your head and moving towards shelter, avoiding trips; do not swat at the insects or jump into water. Read the full advisory before an outing if you want to prepare.
If the nest is outside a park, do not assume the park-reporting route establishes who manages that site. Contact the relevant premises or estate management to clarify the appropriate response.
