For an eligible primary-school child on MOE FAS, distinguish school bus support from public transport support. Current 2026 school guidance lists a subsidy of 70% of school bus fares, or $21 per month for public transport, up to $252 a year.
Punggol parents should check the child’s approval period and actual transport arrangement with school. These figures do not mean every family receives both benefits, a full year’s payment or reimbursement for any chosen journey.
Before budgeting a school bus contract or changing the route, ask how the support will be administered for your child. This guide explains what to clarify about the start month, a change of transport and the amount the family still needs to pay.

CHAPTER 1 OF 5
Use the current scheme information
The North Vista Primary school-services page publishes the current primary-level figures and states that public transport support starts from the month of approval.
Use MOE’s financial-assistance information and your school’s approval notice for the applicable scheme. The primary-school bus benefit should not be assumed to apply to a secondary-school student or another assistance programme.
CHAPTER 2 OF 5
Tell school which transport the child uses
Explain whether the child uses the appointed school bus or public transport. Ask which support applies and whether any transport details still need to be recorded.
If the route varies between caregivers or different days, describe that accurately. Let school clarify the applicable arrangement rather than assume the family can claim two subsidies.
CHAPTER 3 OF 5
Check the bus amount the family must pay
For school bus support, ask school or the appointed operator to explain the gross fare, applicable subsidy and remaining payment. Confirm how the subsidy appears on the bill.
Do not estimate the family’s final payment from an old neighbour’s contract. Routes, service arrangements and fare changes can affect the gross amount even when the subsidy percentage is unchanged.
CHAPTER 4 OF 5
Clarify the public transport process
Ask school how the public transport subsidy is delivered or redeemed and which action the family must take. The monthly figure alone does not explain the administration.
Check the effective period before treating the annual maximum as a guaranteed payment. Keep any message with the redemption or collection instructions and follow up if the expected support is missing.
CHAPTER 5 OF 5
Report a change and review the journey
Tell school when the child changes from the bus to public transport, changes school or stops the recorded arrangement. Ask what needs updating before assuming the support follows automatically.
Keep the journey safe and workable for the child. Compare travel time, supervision and the family’s remaining cost, rather than decide from the subsidy figure alone.
Information checked on 11 October 2026. Follow the current official and school instructions for your child’s individual arrangements.
