Damai LRT station began operating in June 2011, according to SBS Transit’s annual report for that year. Its opening is a distinct milestone in Punggol transport history, separate from the Punggol LRT’s initial opening.

SBS Transit described Damai as the last unopened stop on the Punggol East LRT Loop. The operator also recorded that all seven East Loop stations were open and trains ran in both directions throughout the day.

On a loop, direction affects the sequence of stops a passenger passes before reaching a destination. Having services in both directions provides a choice of paths around that loop.
