School performance day changes the meaning of the school timetable.
For weeks, the child may have been rehearsing a song, dance, ensemble, drama or presentation in pieces. On performance day, those pieces suddenly have an audience. Costumes matter. Call times matter. Parents may need to leave work earlier. Younger siblings may come along. Dinner moves. The family day becomes organised around a few minutes on stage.

Children may be excited, relieved, disappointed or overstimulated after a performance.
The ride home does not need to become a review session. Eat if needed. Talk if the child wants to talk. Let the event settle.
