It may be.

A learning flight recorder is the smallest useful history of how capability is changing across time.
Attempt → evidence → error mechanism → intervention → reattempt → delayed return → changed conditions → school return → next decision.
That sequence tells us much more than 65 becoming 73.
It tells us what the learner is becoming able to do.

A school score answers a useful question:
How did the student perform on this particular set of tasks under these particular conditions?
A flight recorder asks a different question:
What has changed in the learner across repeated attempts, feedback, delay, variation and real school performance?
The difference matters because the same score can be produced by different systems, and different scores can hide the same underlying improvement.

1. Why Tuition Needs Memory
A lesson is temporary.
A learner is continuous.
That distinction is easy to miss.
On Tuesday, a tutor sees Maya lose a negative sign while rearranging an equation.
It is corrected.
Next Tuesday another sign error appears.
Is this the same mechanism?
Has the first correction failed?
Did the error disappear in isolated practice but return when the problem became longer?
Did the student make the error only under time?
Without memory, every mistake looks new.
With too much memory, every mistake becomes a permanent label.
The flight recorder has to do something subtler.

Schools and tuition centres can record enormous amounts of information.
Scores.
Attendance.
Homework completion.
Topics covered.

Minutes studied.
These are records.
They become educational memory only when they help answer the next question.

That may be administratively useful.
Compare:

A seventh category can be useful when the learner is older:

9. The First Timeline: Capability
The capability timeline asks:
What can this learner now do that was previously unreliable or impossible?
For Primary English:
- can decode unfamiliar words rather than guessing from the first letter;
- can write a complete sentence independently;
- can support a simple inference with evidence;
- can plan a composition before drafting.
For Mathematics:
- can identify the percentage whole correctly;
- can maintain signs through multi-step algebra;
- can choose between two plausible methods;
- can verify a solution independently.
For Science:
- can distinguish observation from inference;
- can identify controlled variables;
- can connect changed condition → process → result;
- can interpret a novel graph without relying on memorised wording.
These descriptions are more useful than “better at English” because they can be tested again.
10. The Second Timeline: Support
Two students can produce the same correct answer with very different levels of independence.
Student A reads the question, chooses the method and solves.
Student B gets the same answer after the tutor says:
“Think about the Chain Rule.”
Same answer.
Different state.

24. What Not to Record
Do not record every wrong answer.
Do not preserve every bad day as if it predicts the future.
