A single weak score can come from illness, poor sleep, one unusually difficult paper, rushing, a recently taught topic or a temporary emotional problem. One score is a signal, but it is not yet a diagnosis.

  • the same concept errors appear across different papers;

5. Experiment questions feel like a different subject

When to Start: Use the Evidence, Not a Fashionable Month

There are useful calendar windows — Primary 5, the start of Primary 6, the June period and the run-up to prelims — but the best timing is determined by the child’s evidence.

If the child has a structural misconception in Primary 5, waiting for Primary 6 creates no advantage. If the child is stable and improving independently, starting tuition simply because Primary 6 begins may add workload without solving a problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every Primary 6 student need Science tuition?

No. If the child understands concepts, transfers them to unfamiliar questions, learns from correction and is progressing steadily, the current school-plus-home system may already be sufficient.

Is a low open-ended score enough reason to start tuition?
