The Lens of Literature at Punggol Library | Find the Level 3 Interactive Table

Main building of One Punggol community hub in Singapore.

The Lens of Literature is an interactive table in the Sing Lit area on Level 3 of Punggol Regional Library. It is one stop on NLB’s Punggol Stories trail. The table presents selected poems and excerpts from novels and short stories by Singapore writers.

Start with one excerpt and give yourself time to read it twice. The first time, notice the place or person it describes. On the second reading, look for a word or detail that makes the setting feel familiar or surprising.

  • Find the Sing Lit area on Level 3 at One Punggol.
  • Choose a short excerpt at the interactive table.
  • Pick one detail that helps you picture the setting.
  • Check the library hours before visiting the trail.

The NLB Punggol Stories guide puts the Lens of Literature on Level 3. The other trail stops are Words That Move on Level 1 and the exhibition at Singaporium on Level 4. Start with the table if you have time for just one stop.

The trail has published exhibition hours. If you are going early or late, check those hours separately from the hours of the Level 3 Study Zone.

Try one short reading activity

Read a passage and ask what you can see, hear or picture. Look for a single phrase that prompted your answer. If you are with a child, compare which detail each of you noticed before explaining what you think the passage is about.

For example, a description of a busy waterfront might bring to mind a sound or a particular time of day. Ask which words led you there. This gives a reader a way into an unfamiliar excerpt without needing to read the full work first.

Decide where to go next

If the excerpt makes you curious about the writer, note the title or author and use the catalogue to look for the full work. If you are more interested in the history of the place, visit the Singaporium stop listed in the trail guide.
