The Book of Possibilities is a reading installation on Level 3 of Punggol Regional Library at One Punggol. NLB’s visitor guide describes it as an introduction to genres including science fiction and fantasy. Start with the installation if you are looking for a new kind of story to read.
A short visit can start with one question. What is possible in this world that would be impossible in everyday life? Use the answer to find another book to browse or to sketch an idea of your own.
- Go to Level 3 and look for the Book of Possibilities.
- Spend a few minutes with the comic panels.
- Pick one detail that changes the rules of the story world.
- Browse for a book that develops a similar idea.
Find the installation on Level 3

NLB’s Punggol Library visitor guide shows the installation. The exhibition designer’s project page describes an oversized comic that moves through different genres. Take a moment to see which part catches your attention.
Compare what makes each world different

Look for a detail that suggests technology, magic or another rule the characters live by. Then ask what would happen if an ordinary person arrived in that world. If you are visiting with a teen, try choosing different panels and explaining what made each one interesting.
Choose a book or write a short opening
Browse for a book with a similar premise, or write two sentences about a character encountering one unfamiliar thing. Start with what the character sees and what they decide to do. That gives the idea somewhere to go when you continue at home.
