Singapore Education 2027: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced the 2027 school calendar. MOE Kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools begin the new school year on Monday, 4 January 2027, and their normal final school term ends on Friday, 19 November 2027. Primary 1 and Kindergarten 1 pupils report on 4 January; Primary 2 to 6 and Kindergarten 2 pupils start on Tuesday, 5 January. Families can therefore plan transport, childcare, leave and study routines using confirmed dates rather than a calendar guessed from previous years.
The important exception is that schools used as venues for the new Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) written examinations will end their final school term on Friday, 29 October 2027. Junior colleges and Millennia Institute have different start dates, and some national examinations or school events have their own schedules. This guide separates officially announced 2027 calendar dates from examinations, admissions and school-specific activities that parents must check separately.
- Primary/secondary term 1: 4 January–12 March 2027 (other returning pupils may start 5 January).
- Term 2: 22 March–28 May 2027.
- Term 3: 28 June–3 September 2027.
- Term 4: 13 September–19 November 2027 (some SEC examination venues end 29 October).
- March vacation: 13–21 March; June vacation: 29 May–27 June.
- September vacation: 4–12 September; year-end vacation: 20 November–31 December for most primary and secondary schools.
- JC 1 and MI 1 start: Wednesday, 3 February 2027.
- JC 2 and MI 2/3 start: Monday, 11 January 2027.
- What to check separately: PSLE and SEC subject timetables, assessment dates, individual school events, student care and actual admission exercise windows.
The four school terms in 2027
MOE’s 14 July 2026 press release provides a practical starting point for every household. For most MOE Kindergarten, primary and secondary students, Term 1 runs from 4 January to 12 March; Term 2 from 22 March to 28 May; Term 3 from 28 June to 3 September; and Term 4 from 13 September to 19 November. These are school terms, not a promise that every day will be an ordinary class day.
For example, a school may schedule orientation, learning journeys, sports days, examinations or student-development activities within a term. A student may also have to attend an examination or an approved event under separate arrangements. Parents should keep the MOE calendar as the national base layer, then add dates received through the school’s official communications.
2027 school holidays and vacation periods
- 13–21 March: break between Terms 1 and 2.
- 29 May–27 June: midyear vacation between Semesters 1 and 2.
- 4–12 September: break between Terms 3 and 4.
- 20 November–31 December: year-end vacation for most MOE Kindergarten, primary and secondary students.
- 5 July: Monday school holiday following Youth Day on Sunday, 4 July.
- 10 August: day-after-National-Day school holiday.
- 3 September: Teachers’ Day school holiday, on the final day listed for Term 3.
- 8 October: Children’s Day school holiday for primary schools and primary sections of full schools only.
A school vacation does not mean students should be booked into a full schedule of lessons. The midyear break can be used for rest, family activities, independent reading and targeted repair of topics that caused difficulty in the first semester. Students preparing for a national examination may need planned revision, but a workable plan should still provide sleep, exercise and downtime.
Public holidays and school-specific days off in lieu
The MOE 2027 calendar also identifies relevant public holidays and designated days off in lieu for schools. Chinese New Year falls on 6–7 February; Monday, 8 February, is a public holiday, and Tuesday, 9 February, is designated as a school day off in lieu. Labour Day falls on Saturday, 1 May, and Monday, 3 May, is a designated day off in lieu for schools.
The announced calendar also lists Hari Raya Puasa on 10 March, Good Friday on 26 March, Hari Raya Haji on 17 May, Vesak Day on 20 May, National Day on 9 August and Deepavali on 28 October. Christmas Day falls on Saturday, 25 December, with Monday, 27 December, a school day off in lieu, though most students are already on year-end vacation. Some festival dates can be subject to the relevant official confirmation, so use the current government calendar for final planning.
If a parent uses school-based care or kindergarten care, confirm closures directly with the provider. The word holiday can describe a public holiday, a school holiday, a vacation period or a day when the programme operates differently; these are not always interchangeable for pick-up and childcare arrangements.
Primary 1 orientation: why the first week is different
Primary 1 pupils start on 4 January, ahead of Primary 2–6 pupils who start the following day. This allows the beginning of school to be approached with more focused attention on new entrants. Exact orientation activities differ by school. Families should confirm which gate to use, reporting time, uniform arrangements, allowed stationery, student care details and any rules for accompanying a child.
A good first week is measured by a child learning basic routines, not by how fast they finish enrichment work. Teach the child their name and class information, how to ask for help, what to do if a bag is misplaced, how to recognise a trusted teacher and when to seek assistance with a toilet or lunch issue. These ordinary capabilities reduce stress and support independence.
The calendar for JC and Millennia Institute is different
MOE schedules students entering JC Year 1 and Millennia Institute Year 1 to begin on Wednesday, 3 February 2027. Students in JC Year 2 and MI Years 2 and 3 begin on Monday, 11 January 2027. The difference reflects the post-secondary results and admissions cycle and the needs of continuing students.
Term 2 runs 22 March–28 May and Term 3 runs 28 June–3 September for the relevant groups. The final term runs from 13 September to 26 November for JC Year 1 and MI Years 1–2, while JC Year 2 and MI Year 3 continue to their GCE A-Level examination completion. Parents should use the official pre-university table rather than assuming that the 19 November primary-school date applies to every JC student.
PSLE, SEC and A-Level timetables are not the same as term dates
A school term is a block of teaching time. A national examination timetable specifies individual subjects, oral assessments, practical examinations, written papers and the relevant reporting rules. MOE’s 2027 calendar does not by itself confirm every PSLE paper date. Parents should open SEAB’s examination timetable when it is released and record the child’s subject-specific components.
The first SEC examinations take place in 2027. As announced by MOE and SEAB, English Language and Mother Tongue written papers are planned for September, while written papers for the other subjects follow from October to November. The subject and G1/G2/G3 level matter. The end of the school term on 29 October for schools used as SEC venues should not be mistaken for the last national examination paper for every candidate.
Junior-college students need the actual GCE A-Level examination calendar for their year. Do not apply SEC dates to H1, H2 or H3 papers. Families should also distinguish graduating in 2027 from entering a course in 2027: the first SEC cohort receives results in January 2028, when MOE’s new Post-Secondary Admissions Exercise is planned to begin.
What about P1 registration, DSA and Secondary 1 posting?
The 2027 P1 Registration Exercise, when announced, concerns entry in the following school year, typically 2028. A child starting P1 in January 2027 would already have gone through the 2026 registration process. The registration calendar, priority phases and school vacancies must be checked through MOE’s official P1 portal.
For a Primary 6 student sitting PSLE in 2027, the relevant Direct School Admission for secondary schools (DSA-Sec) and Secondary 1 posting arrangements are those of their 2027 cohort, leading normally to Secondary 1 in 2028. For an older student graduating under SEC in 2027, the post-secondary application process in 2028 follows its own rules. Parents should keep three columns in a planning sheet: examination year, application year and entry year.
A parent-facing calendar that prevents missed deadlines
- November–December 2026: confirm 2027 school placement, uniform and book arrangements, transport plans, and whether MOE financial assistance or student care applications need action.
- Early January 2027: check reporting dates, classroom orientation, school calendar and communications channel.
- March: use marked schoolwork to identify a small number of concepts that need attention during vacation.
- May–June: review first-semester progress and plan a balanced combination of rest, reading, family activities and targeted study.
- July–August: monitor actual national examination, DSA or admissions notifications for the correct cohort and check school-level assessment notices.
- September–November: follow SEAB’s candidate-specific timetable; maintain consistent routines instead of treating every date as identical.
- Year end: confirm the next year’s school or post-secondary entry, fees, commuting and books, rather than assuming that everything transfers automatically.
How to plan revision without exhausting the child
Begin with the syllabus and the student’s actual recent work. Identify mistakes caused by conceptual gaps, misunderstanding instructions, poor organisation or time pressure. These require different interventions. In Mathematics, the problem may be a weak algebra step. In English, a student may know the vocabulary but fail to interpret the question. In Science, a learner may memorise an explanation but fail to transfer it to a changed experiment.
During a holiday, give each weak area a short cycle: explain the idea, attempt a few deliberate questions, correct the first wrong step, revisit the topic later and test the idea without the chapter label. This is more useful than distributing hundreds of unreviewed worksheets. Leave room for independent reading, social time and sleep.
What not to do with the 2027 MOE calendar
- Do not tell P2–P6 families to report on 4 January without checking the published 5 January start for returning primary pupils.
- Do not assume every secondary school finishes on 19 November; SEC examination venues may end their teaching term earlier.
- Do not treat the published school term dates as confirmed dates for every PSLE, SEC or A-Level paper.
- Do not assume student-care, school offices and co-curricular programmes operate normally on designated days off in lieu.
- Do not use a 2027 admission application date for a different 2028 or 2029 cohort.
- Do not pack every vacation day with revision simply because a school year has fewer ordinary lessons.
- Do not book non-refundable travel without checking an examination, selection interview, school event or registration notice that may affect the child.
